Tiga and Hudson Mohawke further their mission to Legalize Compassion with this outstanding set of remixes of their Love Minus Zero collaboration.

With a self-reported emotional IQ of 196 and the dancefloor pedigree of a pure-bred champion clubhound, Tiga and Hudson Mohawke’s Love Minus Zero project offers nothing less than total catharsis in torn dungarees. Their debut album L’Ecstasy delivered on the duo’s promise of “hardcore romance,” even in the eyes of the most hardened hardcore romance purists. And now, LMZ:RMX showcases a dazzling array of styles and sensibilities that will give listeners a musical education tantamount to eight months of crate-digging with The Beat Burglars, or watching that Netflix documentary series where Lin-Manuel Miranda travels to Ibiza to learn more about rock history.

Tracklist:

- A test audience confirmed that the remix by Berlin's Quelza of “IN ORDER 2” takes the original “into Berghain territory,” which is an area which includes both the club proper and the fenced-off pen where rejects console one another in the pitiless German moonlight. 

- Many would say Keinemusik is the hottest crew in dance music today, and frankly who has the energy to argue otherwise? To this end, we platonically tapped Reznik to turn “Silence of Love” into the No. 1 Autumn Anthem of 2024, and he did not disappoint. 

- Keepsakes titled his serotonin syndrome-inducing version of “BUYBUYSELL” the “Cynical Vox” mix, but make no mistake: this British-New Zealand DJ-producer/Haven founder has a heart of gold, which shone through in each one of his tender email exchanges with us.

- Storied Techno Texan Audion is in peak form on his remix of “Duro,” which means “hard” in Spanish AND Portuguese. Audiophiles should note that the track was mastered at the vineyard he and Tiga co-own with Bryan Adams.

- On their mix of “IN ORDER 2,” Merry Men of Montreal Priori and Patrick Holland team up as Jump Source and make sweet music deep into the evening time, doing only as Eros commands.

- Hamburg Electro Genius DJ Mell G strips all romance from her mix of “BUYBUYSELL,” favouring a vision of future in which websites are illegal and people “jack in” to landlines to download the latest feelings.

- Finally, the ADJD mix of “Duro” sees Swedish techno legends Alexi Delano and Jesper Dahlback return at last to Turbo’s frigid embrace. You’ve read all about them at the library, now experience their majesty over headphones on the computer at the library.

"We came all the way from heaven to dole out euphoria like it was candy from our pocket,” says a visibly erect Tiga. "Put it this way: when a frown sees us coming down the street, it’s fucking over. We watched these remixers become our Deputy Music Angels before our very eyes, and I can only hope they think that sounds as cool as I know it feels to see."

Tiga & Hudson Mohawke - Duro (Alexi Delano & Jesper Dahlbäck Remix)

German house innovator Ben Evers is having a standout year. As well as launching this label with a well-received first single, he also dropped a fantastic EP on Live At Robert Johnson. After many years as one-half of the respected Adana Twins duo, Evers is now simultaneously exploring a solo chapter that sees him delving into fresh influences and inspirations having previously made waves on labels like Permanent Vacation and Correspondant. This fresh new release opens with 'Acid Orchestra' which has militant drums and snappy hi-hats dancing over thudding kicks while a supple 303 line ripples its way through the whole mix. There is a darkness to the bass which is heightened by some menacing spoken words to make this a peak time but classy house banger. Things stay just as high impact on the brilliant 'Breakout Riddim' where old school horns bring a '90s rave feel to slamming kicks. It's a full throttle sound with some rudeboy vocals adding extra fuel to this nostalgia-tinged classic. UK mainstay Man Power is a famously versatile artist who is able to lay down dark disco, thrilling techno, and plenty in between, all with oodles of individual style on his own Me Me Me as well as Freeride Millenium and Rekids. He comes fresh from the release of his debut BBC Radio 1 Essential mix. Here, he flips 'Acid Orchestra' into a lithe and elastic jam with more deft acid details, dramatic fills and ragged synth sequences that all ride on a surging techno groove. It's strobe-lit, heart-of-the-dance floor, hands-in-the-air perfection.

Lisbon's Paraíso is back with its 14th release 'Crossroads' by local legend-in-the-making @salbanymusic and remixes from portuguese dance music pioneer Cisco Ferreira a.k.a. The Advent and Detroit's own AMX otherwise known as The AM.

The record opens with 'My Life', a warm yet propulsive detroit-referencing techno cut with pad washes, shuffling hi hats, an introspective vocal sample, cascading organ solos and arpeggios to a blissful effect. A2 'Crossroads' brings us a raw, bouncy, jam-like rhythmic section with syncopated toms and snares offset by a piano stab motif and emotive strings. 'Next Morning' closes side A, a hypnotic, curveball roller featuring a warm, rolling bass, offbeat drum hits glued together by immersive pads and UR-esque strings.

Side B opener 'Mito' delves into trippier territories with admirable skill - not losing an inch in dancefloor potential - fusing bleeps and bells, beautiful chord progressions and hyper groovy drum machine programming.
Techno icon @ciscoadvent steps in with his 'Lisbon Dub' remix, transforming 'Crossroads' into a sparser, delay-infused slow-burner held together by a dope bass line. @amx313 brings the lead synth of ‘Mito’ to a lower octave, mutating it into a swingy midwestern experimental cut that inspires urgency and life force.
A restless mantra emerges via the digital bonus track, an alternate 'Elevated' remix of 'Crossroads' that superbly merges original detroitian leanings and industrial textures in a no-frills peaktime banger.

This is one of those records that lovingly reminds us techno is about emotion, swing, energy. As in life, nothing here sits still: movement, physical and metaphysical, is the messenger of progress.

DJ Pierre’s seminal Afro Acid welcomes a host of contemporary talents to remix Joyce Muniz including Oliver Dollar & Stefan Braatz, Alinka, Lauren Flax and Hannah Holland. The original single landed earlier this year and did plenty of damage around the world.

It is the German pairing of Oliver Dollar & Stefan Braatz who go first. The former is a master of sample heavy house with real heart, and often collaborates with Braatz. Here they offer a prickly version with chattery Chicago claps and bouncing drums and bass that will energise any set in style. Chicago native Alinka is next and is known for her weird and idiosyncratic take on house on labels like Crosstown, Classic and her own Twirl. She imbues her music with the spirit and history of the Windy City and here layers in acid flashes and machine gun like lasers that make
for a brilliantly dark and involving groove.

Lauren Flax comes from Detroit by way of Brooklyn and has worked with the likes of Little Boots and Tricky, DJed at Panorama Bar and released her jack tracks on cult labels like Unknown to the Unknown. Here she fantastically builds the pressure with gliding hi hats that get under your skin as the fat bass props up the libidinous and seductive vocals and acid twitches. Last of all, UK sensation Hannah Holland is a queen of bass heavy sounds and brings that to her remix, which is a slick and kinetic track of prickly drums, acid stabs and freaky synth work.

This is a powerful package of fresh and forward looking house music.

Turbo Recordings was founded by Tiga in Montreal back in 1998. In addition to launching his own career, the label has been integral in the success of acts like Chromeo, Gesaffelstein, Duke Dumont and most recently, ANNA & Charlotte de Witte. Core talent includes ZZT (Tiga's collaboration with Zombie Nation), Jori Hulkkonen, BETON, Clouds, Harvard Bass, Pilo, Shaded, Dimitri Veimar and a host of new young producers in genres ranging from pure techno, electro, and house to pop. The list of artists who have released music on the label is a veritable 'who's who' of top-level talent spanning a broad musical range, and this, along with a commitment to beautiful design, has earned the label respect in the industry and a cult following among fans. 

“We started out singing into plastic bags and shipping them to stores as quickly as possible. Later, we discovered that vinyl sounds way better when delivered by kayak. I learned so much the first few years…Now, as I look towards the future, I can envision music for poor people, sonic odors for the hearing impaired, even MP3s for women....Vroom, sucka!” says Tiga, the lyrical lampsman lighting the way down Dance Avenue.
