Franco-German producer Franz Matthews strikes back with his 'As I Am' EP on his own imprint HIFI/LOFI Records, a catchy Indie Dance groover with infamous self-reflecting vocals that is set to wake up every festival stage this summer.

 Made of 2 sunny originals and backed up by three killer remixes from power producers Vhyce, Yame and Tegel Boys, the EP covers all ranges of the Indie Dance spectrum beautifully.

After a strong year 2022 with a string of praised releases like The Question, which has seen major players like Ame, The Economist or Innellea widely supporting its remixes of Aera & The Organism, Franz Matthews digs in his spiritual inspirations again with ‘As I Am’.

 Produced during Matthews' time spent in Barcelona at the beginning of summer 22, As I Am lifts off with a carpet of heavy organs unfolding in a powered-up euphoria of synth chords before a choir of empowering & self-reflective gang vocals, reminiscent of early LCD Soundsystem's 'Sound of Silver' days, throw us in our face to fully accept who we are and be proud of our uniqueness. The trip takes us even further in a cosmic festival of funky acid leads, which will mind-bend any listener that will encounter the path of this catchy happiness filler.

Belgian cosmic disco mastermind Vhyce steps in for the first remix, with a spacey and mental exploration of the eponymous single. Next in row, Ukrainian ‘happy techno’ duo Yame reinterpret As I Am in a totally opposite direction with their signature vocoded and bonker production prowesses.

Sonnenallee, the second original track of the EP, is a sunny and slightly deranged funky stomper initially produced at the time of Franz's debut 'Ostkreuz' release. No one else than the fantastic disco pilot crew of Tegel Boys could close this EP more beautifully, with their infamous and obsessive acid-boogie styled hooks, making you want to dance until you can’t feel your legs any more.

Introducing Renato Cohen's latest release on Future Disco Dance Club: "Alcalina / Sunlight." Get ready for a dynamic journey through the realms of techno and disco, expertly crafted by this renowned Brazilian producer.

Tiga and Hudson Mohawke further their mission to Legalize Compassion with this outstanding set of remixes of their Love Minus Zero collaboration.

With a self-reported emotional IQ of 196 and the dancefloor pedigree of a pure-bred champion clubhound, Tiga and Hudson Mohawke’s Love Minus Zero project offers nothing less than total catharsis in torn dungarees. Their debut album L’Ecstasy delivered on the duo’s promise of “hardcore romance,” even in the eyes of the most hardened hardcore romance purists. And now, LMZ:RMX showcases a dazzling array of styles and sensibilities that will give listeners a musical education tantamount to eight months of crate-digging with The Beat Burglars, or watching that Netflix documentary series where Lin-Manuel Miranda travels to Ibiza to learn more about rock history.

- A test audience confirmed that the remix by Berlin's Quelza of “IN ORDER 2” takes the original “into Berghain territory,” which is an area which includes both the club proper and the fenced-off pen where rejects console one another in the pitiless German moonlight. 

- Many would say Keinemusik is the hottest crew in dance music today, and frankly who has the energy to argue otherwise? To this end, we platonically tapped Reznik to turn “Silence of Love” into the No. 1 Autumn Anthem of 2024, and he did not disappoint. 

- Keepsakes titled his serotonin syndrome-inducing version of “BUYBUYSELL” the “Cynical Vox” mix, but make no mistake: this British-New Zealand DJ-producer/Haven founder has a heart of gold, which shone through in each one of his tender email exchanges with us.

- Storied Techno Texan Audion is in peak form on his remix of “Duro,” which means “hard” in Spanish AND Portuguese. Audiophiles should note that the track was mastered at the vineyard he and Tiga co-own with Bryan Adams.

- On their mix of “IN ORDER 2,” Merry Men of Montreal Priori and Patrick Holland team up as Jump Source and make sweet music deep into the evening time, doing only as Eros commands.

- Hamburg Electro Genius DJ Mell G strips all romance from her mix of “BUYBUYSELL,” favouring a vision of future in which websites are illegal and people “jack in” to landlines to download the latest feelings.

- Finally, the ADJD mix of “Duro” sees Swedish techno legends Alexi Delano and Jesper Dahlback return at last to Turbo’s frigid embrace. You’ve read all about them at the library, now experience their majesty over headphones on the computer at the library.

"We came all the way from heaven to dole out euphoria like it was candy from our pocket,” says a visibly erect Tiga. "Put it this way: when a frown sees us coming down the street, it’s fucking over. We watched these remixers become our Deputy Music Angels before our very eyes, and I can only hope they think that sounds as cool as I know it feels to see."

At Turbo, each day is a gift we unwrap with our hearts and ears. And in this respect, the label debut from Miura represents nothing less than a Christmas beyond compare. This Ukrainian DJ/producer’s angular, ultra-modern house sound has broken through to the S-tier of the European club circuit, and she first came on our radar after meeting Turbo founder/creator/ombudsman Tiga in Ibiza this past summer. We must stress that “chance meetings” are NOT a viable path for ambitious young artists who think hiding in Tiga's luggage with a pen drive will get them anything but his personal phone number and a week’s worth of heavily discounted “DJ lessons."

For this release, Miura was generous enough to provide us with heartfelt and poetic notes on each track, which we will present verbatim, accompanied by only the most respectful SEO-optimized comments:

1) I Do

Miura: "This track dives into the realm of fantasy. It’s a story of him calling her, longing to immerse himself in her inner world as she escapes into her thoughts, sitting in the stillness of her bath.”

Turbo: You may be delighted to learn that Turbo HQ features a bathtub of its own, designed for fully-clothed "wet brainstorming” as killer Hi-NRG-inflected hits like “I Do” play over the unreliable-at-best bathtub sound system.

2) 7AM In A Lovetown ft. Melon Blush

Miura: "This song captures the magic of love. It’s about locking eyes on the dancefloor as the first rays of sunlight stream in, sharing stolen kisses to the rhythm of the music, and confessing your heart in the early morning light.”

Turbo: While we are certainly no strangers to after-hours dancefloor romance anthems, we will note that confessing your heart in an early afternoon email can be just as effective and leaves the door open for follow-ups that say things like, “Just giving this a quick bump :)” and “It’s been 45 minutes — are you ok???"

3) Three Dots

Miura: "This track was born in a bomb shelter in Kyiv. In the midst of chaos, the only refuge for my mental health was putting on headphones and creating music until the noise around me faded. It’s a song of resilience, featuring the Ukrainian words, "що нас не вбиває робить нас сильнішими" ("what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger"). I dedicate this track to everyone on this planet fighting their own unseen battles…”

Turbo: This narrative runs far closer to being genuinely meaningful than we are normally comfortable with. Please have the decency to let us call it a “five-star house banger replete with arpeggiated synth flourishes and sleek vocals” from the safety of our comfort zone, which is itself replete with back issues of Modern Lizard magazine, and leave us be.

4) Call Me ft. Cafius

Miura: “This track is a playful ode to the friends who are always just a call away—like Tamagotchi in our pockets, always there when we need them most.”

Turbo: This acid gem offers a wonderful metaphor, with calling someone (which you should never do) standing in for texting someone (which you should do when you want something).

You gotta and oughta know by now that releasing world-class music the whole year round is both squarely and firmly in our wheelhouse. And if you’ve never been to our wheelhouse, stop in some time to chat over a piping stack of wheelcakes. It should be fun.

Rydim is a mystery. Well, partly… One thing that isn’t a mystery is the high level of acid house authenticity at play here. Dark, heads-down strobe light seduction with the focus squared firmly on the soul of the dance. 

‘FOMO’ lives up to its name thanks to some ominous reese craft. Purring savagely throughout the track, leaving space for the sinewy 303s to dance wildly, it sucks you right in and spits you back out into the lasers at speed. Miss it, miss out. 

Don’t miss either Johannes Albert’s remix or the Bass Tool either; the former maintains the acid but re-shapes the bass into a warmer vibe while the latter strips everything back to that growing, heated bassline. Both will leave everyone in the house happy… 

Finally we have ‘Fairlight’. A homage to the mother of all samplers? That’s another mystery to solve. But we do know it’s another beauty from Ridym; naked beats and bass with crucial pads woven in for optimum breath-takes, every rush any dancer has ever felt since the 80s is saluted and celebrated right here.
