Featured on Fengler´s ‘Berghain 05‘ mix, ‘Sphinx‘ takes a straighter path into the kind of sensory techno that Marcel is well known for presenting on the Berghain floor. Funky, playfully aggressive, heavily defined and certainly cosmic, a concerto of outer-space tones, static and filtered waves join the racing percussion in tense unison.

A special collaboration with Partout records from Paris. Break 3000 dug deep in the archives for this one and found some old unreleased music on his dusted DAT tapes ranging from 1993 to 2002. Now released for the first time ever on vinyl 12” and digital.

“Human” and “Komputerok were produced in the same project in his Maastricht bedroom studio back in 2002 and reflect to great influence artists like David Caretta and The Hacker had on his sound back then, a mix of banging Electro Clash meets EBM, 80s Proto House.

“Overdrive” opens the B-side and a window to the late 90s. This track was produced together with his classic “Plastique People” around 98/99 and was an instrumental track luckily found again, Break 3000 added a new vocal and made a fresh shorter Edit. Thanks to the
excellent mastering by Salz Music this one is back in today’s sound standards.

The next pearl from the past is a real favourite and is the oldest track featured on this EP. “Ambizone” was recorded back in 93/94 and marks the transition from his first musical project Amazone to becoming Break 3000. Recorded in an amazing analog studio in Venray Netherlands where Break 3000 worked on a full album. More music will follow from these old sessions! Stay tuned.

Closing out with “Nature”, a true homage to the early Rephlex sound and produced around 97/98. Acts like Bochum Welt, D’arcangelo and µ-Ziq had an immense influence on Break 3000 and are a reason why he started to make more electro orientated music.

Mystery is such an important part of music. It’s why only the handsomest male DJs declined to wear a mask between 2012 and 2015. When we work with an artist for the first time at Turbo, we are immediately torn between wanting to know everything about them and letting our childlike imaginations fill in the blanks.

It is well within our means to hire a team of private investigators to find out things like that he’s originally from Burlington Vermont, and that his tracks have been played by the likes of Danny Daze, Dense & Pika, Brodinski, and Tiga (this is, in fact, how Tiga usually finds out what tracks he’s been playing). These investigators would ideally be well-versed enough in dance music to describe his sound as “cerebral,” “hypnotic,” and “dystopian,” but this would deprive us of the joy of thumbing through our dog-eared copy of the Twin Turbo Techno Thesaurus, a robust four-page tome that allows us to create promoscapes so vivid the music itself becomes almost completely irrelevant.

The point is that we’d like to think Vakkuum could be any one of you. That his raw, pumpin’ sound could be your raw, pumpin’ sound. The world is a far more magical place when you have absolutely no idea who you’re talking to.

Released in solidarity with Tiga’s anti-tech house crusade, a silent campaign fought everyday on the streets of your hometown, “Blaze” finds Russian crypto-whiz Dimitri Veimar still dancing with the rawer-than-the-rawest-dog electro that’s brought him to the dizzying heights of the mid-tier crags of Mt. Turbo Mountain.

Throwing his weight behind what some in the media are probably already calling "Tiga’s War" was absolutely necessary following the events of a recent gig in Moscow. Veimar opened the night by playing no fewer than three Tiga tracks, which anyone who’s read Tiga’s Taboos can tell you is definitely a Tiga Taboo. Deeply immersed in the practice of pouring his own mineral water, Tiga ignored the hootin' and hollerin' of the VIPs crowding the DJ booth (including Dennis Miller and Diego Maradona), and proceeded to play a set entirely comprised of recordings of every embarrassing thing Veimar had ever said in his life. Four hours later, an emotionally-shot Veimar collapsed into Tiga’s arms, with the magnanimous label boss whispering, “I forgive you, Dimitri” into his ear.  

The release also features a "broken techno" remix from mysterious European producer Florian Kupfer, who made us sign a Non-Disclosure-Agreement dictating that we can only describe him as “mysterious,” “enigmatic,” and/or “European,” so we’ll have to let the music do the talking.

Berlin-based Irish artist Hybrasil delivers a high grade debut album on Radio Slave’s Rekids.

Since moving to Berlin Hybrasil has been an avid buyer of records at Hardwax, going to modular workshops at the cult Schneidersladen, attending Superbooth and Berlin Atonal, Panorama Bar and Berghain, whilst releasing his big, arresting techno sounds on his own eponymous label. Alongside this he’s been spending time in the studio with Radio Slave, who played Hybrasil's ‘Hathor’ in Panorama Bar which kicked off a three month burst of creativity that led to this album. As such, the album is very much a product of the artist's time in Berlin and was written for the Panorama Bar and Berghain sound system and all who attend its dance halls.

The album takes off with the smooth rolling techno of 'Hathor' that gets you on your toes, while 'Come Back' soon ups the ante thanks to the way Hybrasil twists and turns his synths above the rooted kick drums. 'Ceres' then has edgy sustained chords and thunderous claps that will sound mega in a cavernous warehouse space.

'Orpeheus' is a masterclass in economical but effective techno, with well-crafted hi hats, rolling kicks and vocal stabs all driving it forward. 'Ursa Minor' traps the listener in unresolved loops that keep a locked groove, until 'Messier' mixes up seriously weighty bass-drum thuds and Jeff Mills style melodic minimalism. The compelling LP completes with 'Igigi' and 'Vela', two more astral techno rollers with celestial synths and devastating drum programming.

Turbo Recordings was founded by Tiga in Montreal back in 1998. “We started out singing into plastic bags and shipping them to stores as quickly as possible. Later, we discovered that vinyl sounds way better when delivered by kayak. I learned so much the first few years…Now, as I look towards the future, I can envision music for poor people, sonic odors for the hearing impaired, even MP3s for women....Vroom, sucka!” says Tiga, the lyrical lampsman lighting the way down Dance Avenue.
