Rewind in time to the mid 2000’s when Nickodemus was making many collaborations in San Juan Puerto Rico with the Candela All-stars, Quantic, & many Salsa, Rumba legends. Vocalist & guirro player Sammy Ayala (from the groups Ismail Rivera & Cortijo) was one of those legends & they had a quick easy style of working together. Baila a tú Manera feat Sammy Ayala came out with a Whiskey Barons remix in 2012. Almost 10 years later & we have another remix aimed straight for the dancefloor by the one & only Captain Planet. Let the dancers loose & raise a toast to the late great beautiful Sammy Ayala one more time.

Jah Sazzah's signature dub productions meet head-on with Senegalese musicians and singers such as the cousins Abramo Laye Senè and Bara Gianie on the track "Ndaga," which is only the tip of the iceberg of the dancefloor magic achieved on these very successful Africa-meets dub/house collaborations. “Vente pa’cá” started with an afro-funk groove made by italian producer Jah Sazzah who has produced Dub, Reggae & a recent Deep Global Electronic album for Turntables on the Hudson called “Horizons.” When asked for a possible vocalist, Nickodemus made some edits & mixes and sent it to Grammy-nominated Colombian vocalist Jimena Angel who quickly put her signature vocal style as a catchy chorus saying “vente pa’cá” meaning “come here.”

Jimena was featured on the recent Captain Planet album with a hit song “Pambelé” as well as releasing many Latin/Electronic/Alternative singles the past few years. The song’s afro disco funk feel then got a heavy Caribbean style four to the floor Poirier remix with an entirely different melody for the dance-floors. Ex Ninja Tune artist and Montreal legend Poirier is best known for his remixes & modern Afro-Caribbean productions & has a strong selling album on Wonderwheel Recordings called “Soft Power.”

This project is all about going back to my roots: pulling out obscure vinyl from my global collection, then lovingly chopping, remixing and editing them into new tracks with a contemporary edge and classic Captain Planet touch. All 9 edits have been blended, along with other audio samples and field recordings, into a 45min mix, which will be printed to cassette tapes like my earliest mixes from the late 90's. Similar to Mystery Trip Vol.I, which was listed in Sasha Frere-Jones "Best Music Of 2012", Vol.II leads you on a psychedelic journey to destinations around the world, where you are drawn out of your sonic comfort zone via a soundtrack that bridges styles of music from Asia and Africa to South America, The Caribbean and beyond.
