It was a call to action for inspiration, creation, motivation & moving your body in response to the depressing times of initial lockdown & continued music gathering closures during the pandemic. What we did instead was invested in music, art, collaborations, videos, remixes hoping to keep the spirits alive & inspiration high for each other. It’s now Spring of 2022 & we’re happy we did it all. Here’s the fruits of those seeds planted. Songs from artists across the sound spectrum from Morocco, Italy, USA, Spain, Argentina, Peru, UK, Montenegro, France, Belgium, Turkey, Dominican Republic, Niger & more.

Wonderwheel proudly presents the third single off of Yemanjo's upcoming LP 'La Misma Fuente': “Bululú”

“Bululú” is an incendiary bass-heavy banger made for dance floors from Toronto to Timbuktu.  With influences of afrohouse, kuduro and zouk music, this infectious floor-burner seethes with compelling percussion, interlocking bass, horn stabs and a rhythmic vocal hook that anchors the groove.  

“Bululú” is a slang term in Venezuela for a large, noisy crowd of people, and the frenetic energy of this track brings to mind a sweaty, moving mass of people.  A perfect showcase of the higher energy side of Yemanjo’s sound, look to hear this one playing on repeat at summer festivals worldwide in 2024.

Gitkin makes his triumphant return to Wonderwheel with "Don't You Want Me Baby", a cheeky instrumental Cumbia cover of the eternal 80s classic by The Human League. Leading with the guitar for the verses, the song chugs along nicely with a faithful interpretation of the original with Simon Moushabeck's accordion leading the chorus. A fun, happy tune for sure to light up dancefloors this spring.

Here's a 60min snippet of that party... a small tribute to JAM MASTER JAY (RUN DMC) in the 1st 10 minutes... + that week the Antibalas "Che Che Cole" came out on 12" + I tried out the "Cleopatra in NY REMIX" for the 1st time. Since its inception in 2013, Mawimbi founders have been expanding their knowledge of lesser known and rather undiscovered musical territories thanks to chance encounters with likeminded DJs/producers, who were kind enough to put them onto a good amount of under-the-radar tropical gems.
