Ferris Bueller put it in a nutshell: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” 
A decade has passed since the masterminds behind the Suol label, Chi-Thien Nguyen and John B. Muder, set out as Chopstick & Johnjon with a clear mission: to blaze a trail through the international House and Techno scene. Those ten years seem to have passed in the twinkling of an eye. But things could have panned out totally differently. 
If Johnjon hadn’t waited with the patience of a saint before their first studio meeting - when Chopstick, his future studio, DJ and label partner turned up three hours late – he might have taken exception to the comment that his production skills were “amusing”. 
And if, in turn, Chopstick had not listened very closely as Johnjon took to the turntables, weaving one record after the next into an electrifying, atmospherically dense set. Maybe these lines would never have needed to be written, but despite all the initial adversity and apparent contradictions they both recognized their common ground, how they augmented one another – and the potent energy their symbiosis could unleash, which hasn’t changed, right up to today. 
Both as joint label managers and as a production team, they’ve come a long, long way since then. Techno, Electro, House, Hip Hop – during their early years, in particular, the duo set about exploring electronic music like kids in a sweet shop. Fearless and bold, they surrendered themselves to the moment, but with the Suol label they seem to have found their spiritual home for the time being.

I mentioned previously that [016] would be the last mix of its kind for a while. here’s why:

the heart of this mix series has been the opportunity to share tracks that I love that I might not get to play out, while painting a story arc and traversing multiple genres along the way. during the last year however, I've also found that doing so in a 90-120- minute format feels a bit too cramped — so I decided to change things up a bit.

beginning this month, I'll be focusing each mix on fewer genres. my hope is that in doing so, it'll create more space to explore and build a longer vibe that doesn't feel quite as rushed.

since I still love traversing a wider set of genres, every so often, I'll be combining handpicked favorites from the focused mixes before with new finds, and create a longer mix that will still flow and feel plenty spacious.

for now, I hope you enjoy the first in this new format. listen for deeper, progressive vibes, starting out light, and building into darker, driving basslines before finally coming up for air with a melodic finish 🐢✌🏼

this weekend https://soundcloud.com/zerofucks gathered friends and family  from across the globe to put on a 24-hour livestream full of music, sermons, fitness boot camp drills, and other insanity.

with all the pandemic quarantine going on, it was a welcome break for a moment to have some fun sharing a live experience with everyone via our living rooms. for my part, at 4:20am early in the wee sunday morning easter hours I donned my finest pair of bunny ears and hopped behind the decks to keep the party going.
