The Debut Album by Detroit Swindle. It has everything you would expect from the Swindles, some slow burners with a hint of disco, some deep house, some banging club monsters and hey, even some leftfield hip hop jams.

The album opens with "B.Y.O.", a track that balances nicely between the DS shuffle and an old school New York style block party. The track is a taste of things to come for the rest of the album, hinting towards a big party vibe, but mellow enough to make it a really interesting listen.

The one thing Detroit Swindle are known for best is their knack for picking the right vocals. For Boxed Out, they came up with some perfect partnerships. They recorded "64 Ways" with none other than one of America's finest soul singers: Mayer Hawthorne. Being a fan of their sound he proposed to do a track together in return for a remix on one of his album originals to be released in 2014. "64 Ways" has a lazy shuffle, a bunch of catchy rhodes chords and few well placed layers of synths that give this track a hint of "Detroit Experiment", wrapped up in an almost poppy house jam.

One of the other vocal tracks is "Thoughts of She", that effortlessly samples the voice of UK soul singer Alice Russel from the track "Pushin' on" by "The Quantic Soul Orchestra". There's also the gorgeous track "Center of Gravity" that has Berlin based, Ghanese-Canadian soul singer Sandra Amarie on vocals. It's particularly this track that reflects the true spirit of Detroit Swindle's music, a mixture of soul and UK garage meets Detroit house slowed down to a sexy groove with some of their trademark pads and stabs.

They pushed themselves to explore different tempos as well, which not only resulted on some slow house burners, but also in 2 hip hop tracks. "For the Love of..." is a homage to the old school sounds of "J. Dilla", "A tribe called Quest" and "The Pharcyde", combining off-beat shuffles, a gritty bass line and a warm cut-up soul sample. "You, Me, Here, Now" is almost a love song, disguised in a s(w)ing-a-long down tempo type of track. It's one of those "one more tune" kinda tunes.

So there's hip hop, there's soulful vocals, but It just wouldn't be a Detroit Swindle album without a few bangers on it. "Huh, What!", "Shotgun", "The Fat Rat" and "He's Just This Guy, You Know?" are all relentless dance floor monsters, pushing the tempo to match old school Chicago and New York house cuts from the late 80's and early 90's.

With these tracks "Boxed Out" has a great combination of gritty percussions, hot vocals and catchy chords and it is exactly this recipe that has become the much-loved trademark of Detroit Swindle's house universe. The album has a little bit of everything in exactly the right dose, making it both a good listen, and an extremely infectious club album.

Az Akkezdet Phiai - Újonc, Saiid és Frequent - a hazai hiphop-élet egyik legfontosabb formációja.
A formáció 1996-ban alakult még Higher Tone Alliance néven, először csak zenékkel, majd angol nyelvű számokkal. 1999-ben a szövegek nyelvét angolról magyarra, nevüket Akkezdet Phiaira változtatták, s elkészültek az első magyar nyelvű demófelvételek, melyek már rádióműsorokban is pörögtek, s kézről-kézre jártak országszerte. A zenekar – mely menet közben olyan sztárok előtt léphetett fel, mint RZA vagy a De La Soul – 2004-ben jelentette meg debütáló nagylemezét, a stílszerű Akkezdet címmel. A lemezt, melynek produceri munkáit egy másik tehetséges hazai hiphop-arc, Bobakrome végezte, szinte kizárólag pozitív kritikák kísérték – ez persze nem meglepő, hiszen az Akkezdet Phiai zenéje kövér és harapós ütemek, valamint az utca hangját néhol irodalmi értékű sorokkal és verbális bravúrokkal keresztező szövegek találkozása. A trió legfrissebb albuma a két korongon harminc számot tartalmazó Kottazűr 2010 áprilisában jelent meg - a dupla lemez egyszerre aratott kritkai és közönségsikert. Újonc, azaz Závada Péter Ahol megszakad címmel 2012-ben verseskötetet jelentetett meg.

Akusztik
A két MC-t az Amőba Trió kísérte (Boros Levente - dob, Sági Viktor - gitár; a megszokott Sabák Péter helyett ezúttal Hock Ernő basszusgitározott és nagybőgőzött). Hockon kívül két vendég volt még: Bognár Szabolcs - zongora, Fender Rhodes, Szendrői Csaba - ének, vokál. Feldolgozásként az Amorf Ördögök Tiszavirág című számát játszották el.

Tom Trago's new 12", the album sampler to the upcoming album The Light Fantastic. Featuring the dancefloor stomper "Two Together" which was co-produced by Steffi, "True Friends" featuring Breach on the vocals and the non-album track "Avenido". Big TIp! 

Tom Trago is back, giddily dancing out of the studio into the dizzying light of a European summer. Tucked under his arm are the masters for his third album, The Light Fantastic.

Since his most recent appearance on Rush Hour last autumn, Trago has spent most of his time in the studio. Over four memorable months, he constantly jammed, recorded, tweaked and produced tracks, until he had enough strong material to put together what might just be his best full-length to date. 

Along the way, he was joined by an impressive guest list of guests and collaborators from Amsterdam and beyond, all of who were roped in after “popping into the studio to hang out”. 

You’ll have to wait to hear the album, but the good news is that there’s an enticing teaser of what’s to come in the shape of this formidable three-track taster. One of the tracks, the chiming, loose-limbed, bass-heavy workout “Avenido”, is exclusive to this 12”.

When he sat down to make The Light Fantastic, Trago was keen to recapture the essence of his early work, and particularly the melodic warmth, kaleidoscopic chords and robust grooves that characterized his 2009 debut album, Voyage Direct. This time, though, he wanted to rely less on samples and apply the lessons learnt from four years of largely acclaimed production work. As a result, The Light Fantastic oozes a gleeful sense of fun, whilst retaining the depth and definition that has always been a hallmark of Trago’s work.

The two album tracks featured on this sampler confirm the rich dividends that this new approach brought. “True Friends”, featuring the combined talents of Brit-in-Amsterdam Ben Westbeech and local hero San Proper, bristles with loved-up positivity, all bubbling electronic melodies, fuzzy vocoder vocals and jaunty, bottom-end bounce.

Then there’s the small matter of “Two Together”, an extra large helping of the kind of loopy, feel-good deep house funk with which he made his name. Expertly teased, tweaked and produced, it sees nagging hooks, darting synths, jazz keys and disco stabs riding a relentless, full-throttle groove. Co-produced with Berlin-based Dutch producer Steffi, it’s nothing less than a wide-eyed late night rush. If it doesn’t have you tripping The Light Fantastic, nothing will.
