Awfully Civilised marks a significant milestone for Broken Bear as it represents their first collaboration with a producer outside of their ranks (whose recent credits include Blur, Massive Attack, Tom Grennan, and James Bay!). This collaboration has allowed them to infuse new life into their already unique sound, resulting in a track that promises to captivate audiences with its emotive lyricism and innovative soundscapes.

Broken Bear’s signature dark, melancholic, moody, raw, and grungey style has captured the attention of BBC Introducing and Tom Robinson's BBC 6Music Mixtape and has garnered them comparisons to iconic acts such as Nirvana, Radiohead and Fleetwood Mac.

This song’s topic ain’t sexy but we had to write it anyway; it took some (broken) guts to put it out. It's about disablism, death by indifference, and a failing, flailing health system. It's personal and it's political. It's musically and lyrically twisted, eyeballing the

Black Bag

Chimpanzee’ is the earliest written track on the album, inspired by country influences and Bonneville’s experience of moving away for the first time. Looking out of a high-rise flat in Oxford Street Manchester, Bonneville felt like the chimpanzee shot into space in the 1960s. Many will relate, floating away on this melancholic melody and meeting the Chimpanzee and Bonneville in these feelings of being lost and confused.

Bio
The band called TV FACE are a gang-of-three from Lancaster (UK). They are known for their ear-blistering and intense live shows, and described as “a wonderful trident of piercing guitar, bass and drums, unified by vocals through the torrent of hot noise, thunderous rumble and acid-scuzz” (Louder Than War). Gloriously, riotously, unashamedly angry, with a dash of indignation, and a soupçon of incredulity, their songs rage at the expectations of the keep-calm-and-carry-on-gang.

Their debut album Tide of Men was released on 22 September 2023 on Evil Blizzard’s label Crackedankles Records (who have released Evil Blizzard, Thank, Hot Wax, Fighting, and more), and it was been named album of the week by Louder Than War, Kool Strings, Loose Cannon, and was one of Operation X-Ray's albums of the year.

The self-produced album was recorded partly in an old church, and partly in a bungalow in rural Lancashire, and mastered by Pete Maher (White Stripes, Pixies). The first single - I knew a girl I didn’t know here - was released as a limited edition lathe-cut 7” single that sold out in a couple of hours. 

TV FACE have been played by, amongst others, Huw Stephens on Radio One, tipped as one to watch by Tom Robinson (6Music), playlisted by John Kennedy (Radio X), championed by BBC Music Introducing Lancashire, Frank Skinner (Absolute Radio) and Mat Baty (Pigsx7, Amazing Radio). They have supported Warmduscher, Evil Blizzard, FlithyDirty, Objections, and Brix Smith.
