Formed in 2016 by Francis Nothingwater, La Mécanique is a coldwave/post-punk band which found its origins in the humid depths of Montreal's cold dark alleys. Their sound relies mainly on powerful and heavy synth vibes, reminiscent of the early 80's goth rock genre.

Before I actually started playing and recording I spent a lot of time modding and building guitars from collected parts. Eventually I started messing around with synths and combined the sounds with reverberated guitars. My influences are eclectic. I love the 70's and 80's synth sounds (e.g. Kraftwerk and Jarre) as well as dark ambient music, post punk and noisy alternative rock like Sonic Youth, The Raveonettes and JAMC. Gear: Korg MS20 mini, Roland System-1, Microkorg, a few Volcas, a Fender Jaguar and a Fender VI bass. My pedal board is very basic: Synth 9, Space Verb, Trinity Reverb, Joyo overdrive and a Ditto Looper. 

All my tracks are recorded in my primitive home studio.

Buzz Kull is the solo project of Sydney-based musician and producer Marc Dwyer.

Since 2012 Buzz Kull has been blending elements of darkwave, EBM, and synth-pop into a sound that’s dark, dissonant and danceable. 

His early work, including his 2017 debut Chroma and 2018’s New Kind of Cross, was defined by stripped-back production and a fascination with minimal synth textures. These records drew from early industrial and post-punk traditions, pairing drum machine-led tracks with cool, monotonous vocals and moody atmospherics. 

Over time, Dwyer’s sound has grown harder and more precise. His 2022 album Fascination, released through Italian label Avant! Records, marked a turning point — a sleek, focused collection of dark dance tracks that channel the energy of late-’80s body music. 

Outside of Buzz Kull, Dwyer is a frequent collaborator and remixer, collaborating with artists across the darker ends of electronic music. 

He has toured extensively throughout Europe, the US, LATAM and Asia, sharing stages with contemporaries like Cold Cave, Boy Harsher, Kontravoid and Spike Hellis.
