* Once upon a time, humans and monsters lived in harmony and peace.
* Sadly, this did not last long.
* One day, the humans gained a mysterious power.
* The power was feared by many monsters.
* With that power, the humans waged war on monster kind.
* After many battles, the monsters lost many friends and families…
* …and ultimately, the monsters surrendered.
* The humans were not satisfied enough with just the monsters’ surrender.
* They barricaded the monsters underground a mountain with a magic spell.
* The monsters were trapped, left far away from humans.

* Many years later…
* In 201X…
* Our mountain, MT. EBOTT…
* The legend said that any human who steps into the underground…
* …vanishes without a trace.

NOTE: Context story explaining time! Whether Muffet is spared or killed, Onion-san swoops in to save the day and freed the SOULs while you were occupied.  
If Muffet is spared, Onion-san restrains her by wrapping her in tentacles and then reveals that he freed the SOULs while you were fighting, just like you wanted!
Before setting them free though, Onion-san decides now is the perfect time to break the barrier… before realizing there’s only 6 souls. While thinking about what to do now, the SOULs proceed to harness themselves into Onion-san.
Which isn’t good, I think.
(If Muffet is killed, the scene plays out the same except Muffet is excluded from it due to being, well, dead.)

TL;DR: Onion-san absorbs the SOULs and screws everything up.

Chara takes the role of Mad Dummy. They're a Rogue that follows Asriel around as an apprentice of sorts. They can't use magic or spells, so they scavenge any weapon they can get their hands on. They have a secret hideout where they hide all their stolen goods... that Toriel can find if she's nosy enough. Unfortunately, Chara takes great offense to that and starts a fight.
