The Dark Angel - Dark, Cinematic, Haunting

The final version of Jinjim Dances With Dragons is here! This piece was originally premiered at the Richland College Student Composers Concert in Dallas, TX. It features me (Curran Son) on Clarinet, Jerome Griffin Jr. on Viola, and Victor Mora on Trombone! They did an awesome job with their parts, and I look forward to working with them again!

"Starbound" is a melodic, powerful track inspired by the mystery and awe of the universe and the dream to travel the stars.

Starbound

With my new Soundtrack "See The World Burning In Your Eyes", I am telling a dramatic storyline about 2 virtual characters. The storyline is told by the thoughts of one of those characters:

"[...] When I look around, all I hear are screams. When I try to breathe, all I smell is smoke and dust. When I try to walk, I fall down by the earth trembling. It feels like if the world would break apart, losing everything that ever meant anything to me. At least, you are here with me, even if I am afraid what may happen next. I asked you for dear life with tears in my eyes if everything will be fine. If we may survive and live on together in a peacful world again. You took me deep into your arms and said, 'You have nothing to fear. We will be together.' But as I looked up into your eyes... I could already see the world burning behind me..."

My third Track - "Now I Will Be Free" tells a story which takes place in the glorious age of Rome. It is about 2 men who are strangers in the first place, but they will call each other a friend in the end.

"I once knew a man. He was a restless wanderer, streaking throughout the world. But every here and then, he came to this place again.
On his face, one could truly see the stories he experienced on his journey and also the fights he was involved in. He told me about our world and the people within it.
One day, he told me what pushed him to do all this. He was hunting the men who slaughtered his wife and children after they enslaved them.

I never saw him smiling. Not even one indication of happiness. His family was taken, he had no friends or acquaintance.
But years have passed since the first time we both have met, and at some day I started to call him a friend. And I think, he found his first one too.

Every year, I was waiting for him, and wondering, if he would still be alive and visit this place again. I will never forget this one day ..
It was a nice summer day at sunset, a fresh breeze was touching the land. I looked out of the window, as I did every day - maybe watching for him. 
In the middle of the corn field, I could see the corn bushes twisting to the ground. Looking in more detail, I recognized a man. It was him. But this time, something was different.

I was running out of my hut, aiming to his direction. He was bleeding and could barely move. As I arrived, he fell down to the broken corn bushes. 
With all his strength, he told me his story. The last story I will ever hear from him. The wanderer found the men who were responsible for the death of his family. They knew he was hunting them and so he got ambushed.

Somehow, I never thought he would die one day to be honest. I tried to help him, but he wanted me to stop. At this moment .. I saw him smiling, for the very first time in all these years.
I asked him why he wants me to stop, and he just said .. "because I feel happy, finally seeing my family again." I answered to him: "Now, you will be free my friend". 

I will never forget this moment, in all my life. I will never forget, this friend I had." 

"We will meet again, my friend. But not yet.."

It is that moment, when everything is perfectly clear. The crackling of snow beneath your feet. The burning of air in your lungs. Your ice cold breath lingering in front of you. There is something you can not give up on, something which keeps you alive. Something... that matters.

It is that moment, that split-second before the sun is going down, leaving nothing but darkness. That resolve, rising, pushing out all doubt. As you close your eyes, the world goes quiet. The sound of reality around you becomes your heartbeat as you draw in what seems to be the first deep, true, breath of your life. As you open your eyes, the world fades back into existence. A vision on the cusp of becoming reality. More than a vision. A future. Hope.

This is it. The defining moment. The point of no return. And everything makes perfect sense, as if you had just truly opened your eyes for the very first time.

There is only one path, and it is right in front of you. As you make your first step, you ask yourself one last time: What is it that drives you? What is it that brought you here?

Turning, looking back over your shoulder, the horizon set ablaze by glimmering lights covering the sky, you realize: This is who you are. This is what you are. This is what was meant to be. For the dawn of a new day ... and for all that matters.
