DJ Sodeyama readies ‘Makura EP’ for Radio Slave’s Rekids Special Projects.

Running the Arpa label from Japan since 2011, DJ Sodeyama has been actively involved in house and techno since the early 90s. Releasing music on labels such as Dynamic Reflection, Children of Tomorrow, Quartz and more under his The People In Fog alias, DJ Sodeyama now arrives on Radio Slave’s hard-hitting techno imprint Rekids Special Projects for his first appearance on the label.

Leading the release is ‘Catura’, bringing gentle flowing pads and gorgeous twinkling synths before the trippy, acid-tinged ‘Kumbhira’ takes a darker turn, sending the listener down a polyrhythmic rabbit hole. ‘Makura’ ups the tempo, drawing for sharp and fast percussion hits amongst ghostly atmospherics, an atmosphere matched by the deep and rolling ‘Pajira’, before ‘Sandira’ closes the release with a moody heads-down track complete with hypnotic synthesis and quirky FX.

Steve Rachmad is welcomed to the vinyl-only offshoot Drumcode Limited. ‘Disturbance’ is a punchy little number that has a stuttering synth that rises over the top of the pounding kick drum. ‘Steps’ takes it up a notch with a simplistic bleep pattern that modulates throughout that is awash with a throbbing undercurrent.

Heralded as one of the more interesting newcomers to the underground scene, Lucyʼs refreshing style of intuitive dub techno has found a natural home with Luke Slaterʼs Mote-Evolver label. Having come together earlier this year via Slaterʼs remix of Gmork on Lucyʼs own Stroboscopic Artefacts imprint, this EP for Mote- Evolver showcases Lucyʼs affinity with the darkly elegant and warped atmospheres.

Shrewdly crafted with the intention of creating exhilarated mayhem, Beautiful People is a sonic bomb with a long fuse; steadily discharging intense waves of uptight energy before exploding into life via screaming sirens and raw kick drums.

Falling Empire blurs the line between techno and electronica as tough, rolling beats contrast starkly against a backdrop of weaving harmonic soundscapes to create a disorientating ambiance that is simultaneously energizing and dreamlike.

Happiness Is A Prison is included as a digital bonus, closing out the release neatly by drawing together both functional and abstract flavors evident elsewhere on the record in a marriage of punchy rhythms, abrasive bass and off-kilter keys.

A chance meeting of minds and talents, this surprising new EP comes from a seasoned producer who kicked off the SPC series with his stunning 3 part series, alongside a promising new talent whose name is spreading fast in the techno world. Jeroen Search & Markus Suckut are the craftsmen in question and this is their first creative output working together. JSMS 1.0 introduces us into their world. Tough, straight beats pump under a discordant bed of synth tones that build in crescendo that emerges and then carefully dies down. The occasional crack of a lone clap or teasing washes of tape delay add to the tension, as this paranoid moment takes control. A classically warm and minimalist affair, JSMS 4.3 plants a super deep synth theme in our heads before introducing quite a mysterious spoken word, locking us into the vibe without doubt. Crisp hats cut through the mix as a perfect tool is born. Dub techno excursion JSMS 2.0 is a rough and raw stab track done their way. Reduced and spaced-out yet driving forward, this expertly reduced piece meanders around more left field zones as Jeroen and Markus re-define their vision of the classic dub track.
