Step aside for some smooth and sultry sounds from Samoan singer Mautoatasi Asuao Kalapu.Hailing from the Heart of Polynesia, Samoa, Mau is known for his distinctive high and smooth voice and who brings a unique tone to his songs.He has a number of hits.Tracks including Tolu Manuiti, Aua e te Fa’atofā Mai, Answer Machine and Toe fo’i le Tama Savaii have become firm favourites for many Samoans in the motherland and among fans from all around the world - namely in New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii and mainland US. Mau’s debut album, Fea lou Alofa, was released in 2005 - much to the unexpected surprise of many who were wowed and impressed by this new voice never heard of before and particularly the Pacific Islands.The sound was not only fresh, but also included lyrics that many Samoan fans could relate to - growing up in the islands, hardships, heartbreak and romance.That album has what can now be described as some of Mau’s greatest hits.Mau now sings with his wife Matalena and they regularly tour New Zealand, Australia and make appearances at local concerts and shows in their motherland.
