Hack a Week

Armed to the teeth with her uke and a gentle voice, Atdiy makes it all better just long enough for Whixr to drift off - meanwhile the battle rages on outside their Zombie Proof bunker.

Undead Lullaby

Taking a break from the acoustic vibe of the last few weeks, we're going deep down the Whiskery Way.  Arps, fuzz, and wub wubs assault from all angles, marching to a broken clockwork cadence.

Turn up the subwoofer, shake your zombie bunker.

Digital Hashishin

This song started out as a really cute duet, but Atdiy changed all the words to be from the point of view of a zombie (our very first Zombie song).  So funny!

Since then we've continued with the ZombieTheme - going so far as to start up a popular podcast all about how us, and our weekly guests, would survive if zombies started running around eating brains!  All sorts of famous people have been on the show.  Funny how the silly funny things you do can change your life!

Zombie Love Song

This week is a second test of the instrumentation and pattern work we did on Digital Hashishin, bringing in some sampled acoustic elements (uke and voice). I don't know that this track really stands on it's own.  It's more of a proof of concept that we can apply the staggered 140 dubstep tempo and the retro 8bit arpeggios to a more acoustic track.  This path should come to fruition when we make progress on laying Hack a Week style vocals nicely into this rhythm.

One interesting thing to listen for is the effected version of the Uke. I spent way too much time playing with that effects chain, very fun.

Something Clever

A huge thanks to Jeremy Blum @sciguy14 for his donation to the show.  In proper Tymkrs tradition, it isn't just enough to say thank you, so here is a song we wrote about Jeremy causing the Zombie Apocalypse with his 3d Printer and some mutant PLA (a corn based plastic used in 3d prining).

So it was.  Whisker, and his Commodore 64
singing 8 bit music on the corner for spare change,

Sampling was king.  Many sad years past.
Then, a new sound rose up in the New York Boroughs.
It was down tempo, it was groove.

Whisker loved that Downtempo Groove,
but his missed his old friend;
his Commodore 64.

Whisker worked night and day
teaching the two to sing together,
but deep underground (in the UK),
a new sound called out to our hero?

In this moment, Whisker achieved enlightenment
He would take the wub wubs and syncopation
He would take the swing and the groove
He would take the arpeggio and the sid chip sound

A Sonic Trip

I mostly just used the dry vocal stem, along with a few snips of the keys and guitar for texture.

Everything else was built from scratch.  I mixed down through a pair of pulteqs onto 1/4" tape at 15ips.
