University of Connecticut Electronic Music Studio (MLib007)

Celebrating its third season, the Boston University Center for New Music is honored to host a number of artists-in-residence, including Italian composer, Pierluigi Billone, for a three-week residency. A student of lauded Italian composer of avant-garde music, Salvatore Sciarinno, Billone views composition as a relationship between composer, object, and sound, and experiments through the exploration of acoustic possibilities, the means of their production, and the manual exploration of the instrument. A three-part series, Billone’s residency will include weeklong residencies with Italian violinist, Marco Fusi, bassoonist Christopher Watford, Boston-based sinofonietta-sized new music ensemble, Sound Icon. Other residencies include a variety of visiting artists and ensembles including a two-day residency with Mario Caroli, one of the most remarkable flutist of his generation and soprano, as well as performances with Tony Arnold, a luminary in the world of contemporary music, the JACK Quartet, and Talea Ensemble.

Wooden Cities is both an ensemble and a collective of performers and composers seeking to help increase the performance and awareness of contemporary music in the Western New York area through unique, educational presentations. Formed in July 2011, the group served as a vehicle for director Brendan Fitzgerald to present John Zorn's game piece Cobra. Since that time the group has grown to include over a dozen performers and is constantly seeking new works by new composers while continuing to present works by some of the essential, yet underrepresented composers of the 20th Century.

Bio:

Tim Reed was born in May of 1976 weighing 11 pounds and 9 ounces. During the following fifteen years, his weight steadily increased, reaching approximately 170 pounds in 1991. Tim's height also increased during this time, reaching 6 feet and 4 inches in 1991. Between 1991 and 2007 his height remained steady at 6 feet and 4 inches while his weight fluctuated between 165 and 210 pounds. Tim is currently 6 feet and 4 inches in height and weighs 179 pounds (July 2011).
 
Ordinary Bio:

Tim Reed graduated with a B.A. in Creative Music Technologies from LaGrange College in 1999 and subsequently attended the Dallas Sound Lab School for the Recording Arts in the Fall of 2000. Tim completed his M.M. in composition/theory at Illinois State University in 2004 and his PhD in composition at the University of Florida in 2008. Tim's compositions have recently been performed at various festivals including Music '04 (Cincinnati Conservatory), the Nong Project, The Kentucky New Music Festival, Electronic Music Midwest, SEAMUS, Electroacoustic Juke Joint, FEAST, the Ball State New Music Festival and the International Double Reed Society Conference. His music has also been featured on radio programs including No Pigeonholes, Difficult Listening, Futhernoise Radio and Foldover. His compositions have been published by Trevco Music and by Lonely Whistle. Tim currently teaches music theory and composition at Manchester College in Indiana.
