One of the last major peaks in the north of the Black Hills is Crow Peak.  The summit looms about 1,500 ft above the city of Spearfish and is visible from anywhere in town.  A trail runs from the base to the top through pine forests and granite rockslides!

I had been wanting to fly here for ages!  My parents have a lovely view of this mountain from their window and I was eager to capture it on film (film?  It's not really film...whatever, anyway).  One of the challenges in flying in a mountain valley is waiting for gps signal.  Another challenge is maintaining line of sight

This one didn't come naturally at first.  It started getting weird after the first big swell, so I abandoned it and tried starting over.  But I found myself whistling the original and so I decided just work on it until it was right.
