Light from the Dark

These tracks were recorded by Gary Paul Duke and William (Gary) Hamer, as a project for, and funded by Decca Records but sadly never released. They've remained in the vaults since 1997.

Based on the book 'Mephisto' authored by Klaus Mann, and written for Ute Lemper. At the time, she chose to work instead with Tom Waits, and the project was largely shelved with two track remaining unfinished. Three tracks, however, were completed: 'The Actor', 'Understand Why You Are What You Are', and 'Call Me Hofgen'.

The writers and producers owe a very great debt to Michael Haas, who remains one of Decca's top classical producers, producing Sir Georg Solti, the Berlin Philharmonic and Ute Lemper, among many others. It was Michael who believed in us, and managed to secure funding for this and other projects.
