Lady Miss Kier's Dub Selections part 1

In the summer for 2012 we thought it would be cool to introduce Thelonious Martin to Tree.  They met up at SoundScape, where Thelonious was regularly setting up shop and crafting music.  The two kick it off immediately and "More Than You Know" was the result.  Although we've released a lot of music with Tree and Thelonious respectively, for some reason or another, this just never came out.  

We want to release it now as a thank you to everyone that's been listening & supporting us the last few years.  Please enjoy, and look forward to great new music throughout 2014.

From their youthful mixtapes Sealed For Freshness, Church League Champions to their breakout mixtape Mania! and two studio albums The Div and G.M.B., the trend-setting California trio Pac Div (brothers LIKE & Mibbs and BeYoung) have always been a little ahead of the curve.  

Since the group has been on a hiatus, they have released a few loosies here and there, but have been more focused on their respective musical directions as solo artists.  Over the past few years, LIKE’s sonic evolution has come full-circle, as he has officially stepped to the forefront and has been quickly establishing himself as a multi-faceted renaissance man; solo-artist, producer and DJ.  

LIKE secretly honed his skills behind the boards for years before making his presence as a producer known to the world; and that presence has definitely been felt.  From Kendrick Lamar’s “Sing About Me, Dying Of Thirst” from Kendrick’s breakout Good Kid, m.A.A.d City, album (which earned LIKE a Grammy nomination) to Ab-Soul’s “Just Have Fun” which continued to build on his synergy with the TDE camp, Curren$y’s “Cruizin,” Med Blu/Madlib’s “Finer Things” f/ Phonte (with LIKE dropping a verse as well) to Anderson. Paak’s “Room In Here” f/ The Game & Sonya Elise from Paak’s runaway smash album Malibu have catapulted LIKE and his eclectic sound to new heights. 

Never one to be relegated to just one creative medium, LIKE’s new instrumental album, Emeralds, is inspired by his travels abroad to Africa and Brazil and artists such as J Dilla, DJ Premier, Madlib, Blu and Radiohead.

Today,  2dopeboyz exclusively premiered the full-album stream for LIKE’s Emeralds, a 14-track journey filled with musical gems.

The fact that the mighty St. Germain entrusted long-time friend Atjazz to be the opening act on his comeback album tour – 15 years after his last LP – speaks volumes about the UK house/afro/soul/jazz fusionist’s reputation. Producing since the mid-’90s when he released early material on free party legends Digs & Woosh’s DiY Discs imprint in tandem with scoring music for computer games (the original Tomb Raider, no less), he has had a prolific and hugely varied output. Five full-length albums; remixes for the likes of Nitin Sawnhey, Jazzanova, Bob Sinclar and of course St. Germain; his labels Mantis Recordings and now Atjazz Record Company; a collaborative project Version alongside Charles Webster; his catalogue is burgeoning. It made for ripe pickings for a soulful journey in his Monologues mix, packed with exclusives, classy vocals and the breadth of his styles.

*How would you describe your sound?*

Seriously hip-shaking beats with a very soft centre!

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*

I've always been inspired by jazz and Herbie Hancock is my hero. He's never stood still, he's always changed his sound, he's always innovated and his curiosity with technology is the same as mine. I also love Weather Report, anything on ECM and modern hip-hop soul. House music isn't something I listen too; it's something I live and do.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

I wanted to create a mix that spanned across a few different times of my life, to show a little of my influences, collaborations and remixes, a tater menu if you will! There are many more better known pieces of work but I wanted to show a little more of "me".
