The oscillators, filters and envelopes closely model components found in some of the great monophonic and polyphonic synthesizers of yesteryear. Modules can be mixed and matched so you can build hybrids, but what sets DIVA apart is the sheer authenticity of the analogue sound. This comes at the cost of quite a high CPU-hit, but we think it was worth it: Diva is the first native software synth that applies methods from industrial circuit simulators (e.g. PSpice) in realtime. The behaviour of zero-delay-feedback filters when pushed to the limit clearly demonstrates the advantages of this groundbreaking approach.

Urs Heckmann - Reprominiscence

Analogue sounds, raw power

Repro is a bundle of two famous analogue synthesizers, meticulously recreated. All the quirks and personality of the originals were captured using component-level modelling for truly authentic analogue sounds.
First up is Repro-1, a fierce monosynth. The classic design gives you immediate access to all the raw power: Two oscillators, self-oscillating 4-pole lowpass filter, arpeggiator, step sequencer, the unique modulation section. Plus five stomp-box effects which can be arranged in any order…

Mix oscillator waveforms, add white noise or feedback, dial in rich LFO-driven pulse width modulation, or try out the sync and cross-modulation options. To experience Repro-1's aggressive side, push the filter resonance over the edge - you will soon discover that Repro-1 is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Repro-5 is the new polyphonic addition. It shares a lot of sonic DNA with Repro-1, but adds new flavours and characteristics. Play rich pads, shape them using the resonant lowpass filter, drive the polyphonic distortion unit as hard as you like, and finally polish your sound with five built-in effects. Keep it lush and polyphonic, or go for thick detuned unison leads. Repro-5 adds new dimensions to the familiar classic sound while keeping analogue authenticity front and centre.

Founded in 2001 by industrial designer and synthesizer fan Urs Heckmann as a one-man show, the Berlin-based audio software company u-he has since evolved into a tightly knit team of employees, active associates and 3rd-party contractors – with ambitious plans.

Known primarily for Zebra2 and Diva, u-he has released several other successful products over the years, and has contributed freeware plug-ins to popular music technology magazines. Despite their underlying complexity, u-he synths and effects are widely acclaimed for their ease of use.

The u-he team has been exploring new technologies for vastly improved analogue synth and delay emulation, as well as various "physical modelling" approaches to acoustic instruments and effects. All valuable groundwork for the Zebra3 project and other spin-off products - watch this space!
Especially well known for the Zebra2 and Diva software synthesizers, u-he has developed several other successful products over the last decade, and regularly contributes freeware to popular magazines (available as download or on cover discs).

Despite their underlying complexity, u-he synths and effects are widely acclaimed for their ease of use. This is often attributed to Urs Heckmann's background as industrial designer. Heckmann sees the seemingly unconventional decision to start an audio software company as a direct result of his equal love for industrial design and for synthesizers.

Most recently, u-he has been exploring concepts for analogue synthesizers, and the first results can be heard in the software synths ACE / Bazille (audio-rate modulation paths) as well as Diva, Presswerk and Satin (accurate simulation of electronic circuitry). Hive is u-he's first foray into the world of low CPU dance-oriented synths.
