Code Fish is one of the most complex compositions I've worked on to date, thanks to the amazing talent of Kristopher Bolin, lead singer and guitarist of the incredible band The Bawl Slant.

The initial proposal was to create tracks in the darkwave style, but the result is an experimental work that relies heavily on polyphonic vocals and blends electronic music with progressive rock.

At the time we started the collab, I was taking my first steps in experimenting with voices within daw -- fascinated by AI-based voice synthesizers and especially excited by the technique of creating multiple layers of voices from a single voice.

The starting point for Code Fish was one of these experiments -- a snippet of Kristopher's voice in Die With Me (The Bawl Slant song) was converted into polyphonic vocals. Kris liked the idea and created his vocals in the same style, re-recording his own voice multiple times. His polyphonic vocals have a much more complex structure than I could ever create. 

The great guitar solo was created by the ever-talented Christopher Hardisty, member of the band StillVivid and frequent collaborator. His guitar solos are always a highlight wherever they appear.

How to save the world? When it comes to this big question, there are three categories of people: those who think that one kiss can do the job, those who believe that rock’n’roll only can do it and those who think that it takes a touch of both!

Think about your first kiss, this landmark event in your life, this very first expression of affection and sexuality together, driven by desire or curiosity, this first time you felt simultaneously so adventurous and vulnerable, so popular and different, so alive! When reflecting about it, don’t you agree that this so common and so important gesture can change your world, and, why not, save the world?

Now, think about rock’n’roll, some beats and rhythms that you will never forget, some songs and lyrics which are so tightly linked to very intimate and important events of your life. Don’t you think that it would be no life without music, that some period of your life would have not been the same without that precise rocky song or, said differently, that good music can change, or even save the world?

I am part of the third type: I am certain of both, together. A desired kiss on a rock song can save the world, or at least my world! So, I am begging you, kiss me, kiss me now and save the world!

Not, and this marks its artistic profile, not additively, "side by side". Ullip combines these functions in order to let a new something emerge from them. CDs whose tracks do not preserve and reproduce "played music" as is usually the case. But CDs where the music is created by editing, mixing and recording it "on the fly". The CD as an audience, so to speak. With the great advantage that - in contrast to live sessions - one can enjoy the cuts of the CDs over and over again.
Based on a rich musical experience and an almost "wild" past, Ullip - together with other musicians - has today found a style that activates and inspires a special genre:

'Chained music'.

Sounds and pieces, music and rhythms that are played in a self-inspiring way or created on technical devices. Born in the moment, just like jazz. Also, not only as in jazz, given as a theme, otherwise improvised. Above all, they are not reproductions in the sense of notated notes. All the elements that stand between the first beat and sound of a live gig, a studio recording and the final burning process on a CD are interlinked to create what the "piece" recorded on silver discs ultimately is.
