Neoteric by essence and yet a return to some oneiric trip-hop and the day after, hands up in the air, dancing grooves feeling ; Treeline is the third album signed on French imprint Ultimae, from a rather prolific artist who launched into numerous collaborations including the Ghostwalk EP with James Murray and the Eskostatic album and who, throughout his art, keeps on questioning causes and underlying perceptions.

Derived from the Latin “Ultimae Terrae,” meaning “the furthest places,” the name Ultimae reflects a profound theme of exploration. This concept is at the heart of Ultimae Records, an ambient music record label and publisher dedicated to transporting listeners to the outer edges of experience through sound and offering a space for introspection and discovery within the vastness of the mind and beyond.

In 1999, Vincent Villuis and Sandrine Gryson, also known as AES Dana and Mahiane, united over a shared passion for the immersive world of electronic music. This collaboration led to the birth of the label. Initially envisioned as a musical portal, Ultimae’s mission was to explore and disseminate the diverse expressions of Ambient music far and wide through the production of records and the establishment of an online shop.

Over the years, Ultimae has expanded beyond its original scope, evolving into a multifaceted company with sound design, post-production, and mastering studios based in Lyon, France, along with professional services in publishing, music licensing, and synchronization.

Zach Bjorklund hails from Lewiston, Idaho where he grew up the only child of a heavily musical family. His father, a vinyl record fan, played classical in the morning, rock and country at lunch, and jazz in the evening, almost every day. His mother, aunt, and cousins all could sing well and did so in church, at home, and wherever they went.

From 2005­ to 2009, Zach trained weekly with world­-class concert pianist and conductor Dr. Michael Zearott at his Nova Music Studio in Clarkston, Washington. In 2009, Zach shifted to study jazz theory under the direction of Thomas Schumacher, launching his electronic-funk fusion act “Astrorobics” shortly after. His biggest influences then were ambient artists Aes Dana and Asura, founders of the French electronica label, Ultimae Records. Daft Punk’s work on Tron: Legacy blew him away in 2010 as well. 

In 2012, local producer David Tucker became Zach’s mentor for a period of time which really inspired Zach towards technical prowess and excellence in production.

In 2014, Zach moved to Moscow to pursue a degree in computer engineering at the University of Idaho, which eventually led to deep understanding of digital audio as an added bonus. Today Zach blends his classical past with his high tech future to deliver tracks on the cutting edge of the epic and soundtrack genres.
