LONGFORM is a 12-hour continuous mix that the Failed Units label co-founder Carne will be releasing in individual sections throughout 2023.

"My favorite format for DJing is by far long sets. I love starting from scratch in an empty room, setting the tone, and knowing I have the time to take the crowd through different pockets of sounds. I can let tracks play out and play with the energy throughout the night instead of feeling like I have to bang it out the whole way through. 

The starting point of LONGFORM was an attempt to recreate a set I played at Oxi in Berlin last summer. I was opening the club room for [Endlich], a free micro-festival that I put on with friends. It was the juncture point of the evening, and we were bringing the action indoors after a series of wonderful ambient and abstract live and DJ sets in the garden of the club. I tried to phase us all into the second part of the program which was more club-focused, starting with exploratory, avant-garde tracks before graduating to beats and heavier club-fare over the course of 2h30. In my friend David's words: "my brain saw the death of the dinosaurs with the shore sounds and BOOMs, and from then it was simultaneously our own apocalypse and the Mad Max-esque tribes reveling in the jungles grown out of industrial remains" 🦕💥💔

I got to meet Zenevloed for the first time that night too, so I'm happy to be circling back to the channel with this mix. This is the first hour of that performance. It's recreated somewhat inaccurately from memory. It includes quite a few personal highlights from artists like Aho Ssan & KMRU, Ludwig Wandinger and Daniel Ruane. There's also a beautiful track from Coronal Mass Ejection's upcoming album."

Julian Determan, aka Mata Disk, is a DJ based in Rotterdam. After leaving behind his former aliases, he has embraced a distinctive sound that blends contemporary club music with ambient and atmospheric elements. Mata Disk’s music celebrates the experimental and boundary-pushing edges of the electronic music.

With two outstanding EPs —"Surrounder" and "Two Sides of the Same Coin" — both released on Nous’Klaer Audio, and a remarkable live performance at Draaimolen Festival, he continues to gain recognition for his immersive and forward-thinking approach to shaping sonic landscapes.
