We're back for episode 22 of our guest mix series. This episode is coming in hot and special from a Vancouver Island legend. em.ash joins us for this episode stepping outside his usual comfort zone. He joins us today proving that you shouldn't put your creativity inside a box and limit your artistic horizons. With just over an hour of tastefully curated dubstep, em.ash proves that his years of experience behind the decks isn't limited to his usual flavours. Join us as we welcome em.ash over to our realm of flavours.

Canadian DJ/ Producer em.ash is a curator of underground dance music, creating a hypnotic mix of deep, groove-infused house, rhythmic bass, and low-slung techno on Vancouver Island. Known for his extended sets, dancefloors can expect a deep and evolving musical journey.

em.ash has releases and remixes out on Rennie Foster’s label RF, Haustronaut Recordings, BeatLounge Records, and System Recordings. He is currently working on a number of different projects, most recently his latest release of RF, Umusa, with LadyK featuring remixes by Rennie Foster and Aspen King.

em.ash has been sharing music and producing events across Vancouver Island and the surrounding island communities for nearly two decades. Personal highlights include Lamplight Gathering, Diversity, Cumberland Wild, Atmosphere Gathering, Lunar Landing, Foolin’ Around, Nootka Sounds Music Festival, Kluth, Big Time Out, and countless intimate events across British Columbia. He continues to work with community groups promoting the arts, culture, and inclusivity.

I had the pleasure of playing a show in an old historic church in Colorado Springs a few days ago for Flow Deep, presented by my lovely friends at Flow Ecstatic Dance, Somatic Frequencies, & Subcaste Sound. This was one of my favorite live sets I've ever performed and I'm glad to have recorded it. Shouts to my good friend Kial // Future Ancient of Sub Pressure who I played alongside with, Rio Cruz of TopLift Media Group for the live visuals, Jon Watt for photographing the event, and all of the vendors and attendees for making this night such a special memory. Episode 21 of Umbral Sound System's monthly mix series on sub.fm. This episode features sultry dubwise, rude grime, and a variety of drum n bass - from the bouncy summer bits to the dark rollers.

GREMMAH
(First Half)

Steph, aka Gremmah, is a DJ best known for mixing heavy-hitting, powerful dubstep that is fuelled with UK grime. She is part of the Umbral Sound System crew and pulls inspiration from the community in her hometown of Edmonton, Canada. She has years of experience performing at festivals and venues across Alberta, and has hosted radio shows on Aaja Radio and Sub FM worldwide. Her most memorable sets include opening for Truth, De-Tu, The Widdler, Khiva and Distinct Motive. With a background in hip hop dancing, she began DJing in 2016 with the motivation to match her stage presence with her high energy track selections.

KR DUB
(Second Half)

Kyle (KR Dub) is a DJ/Producer based out of Calgary, Canada. He is one of Calgary’s most passionate connoisseurs of Bass Music and Soundsystem culture. For the past several years he has been slowly gaining ground within the Western Canadian bass music scene, and the aspiring artist isn't showing any signs of slowing down. Having gained experience in the scene working with Supreme Hustle & Noctilux Collective, he has had anything but modest beginnings. Initially, his penchant for the deep, low end, technical side of drum and bass, coupled with his rapid absorption of the mechanics of mixing, resulted in some stellar initial mix-tapes which garnered immediate attention. His first live set was opening for none other than DNB legend S.P.Y. Since that high-profile debut, he has continued to build steam, improving daily & constantly building on his diverse and expansive music library. This has resulted in a number of bookings over the past couple of years, where he's been able to lend his skills behind the decks to opening slots for artists from a variety of different genres, including Rusko, Fracture, Shades, IvyLab, Chimpo, Dub Phizix & Strategy, Zeke Beats, Truth, Biome and many more. He has also taken his skills beyond our city’s borders, playing in Edmonton with the Future Roots, YEGDNB and Umbral Sound System crews, as well as at a number of festivals including Forest Awakening, Wattage in the Cottage, Hard West and Borealis Music Festival. With the level of professionalism and expertise he brings to the stage, coupled with the traction he’s been making with his own productions, it looks like the future is bright for one of Calgary’s most entertaining sound boys. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for upcoming live performances, mixes and productions.
