We've been fans of WANDA GROUP for some time, loving both his singular brand of field recordings and musique concrète and his unique mode of communication. Across social networks and even into email, every word he types is released into the digital world fully capped for maximum impact. It's not a gimmick though, as one can see from careful reading of his curious observations: he just looks at the world differently. We've been waiting some time to do something with him, and he's gifted us with a long-form piece, "IN ONE EAR AND THEN SHOVED IN THE BOOT OF A CAR". To accompany this piece he answered some of our questions by email, covering his work this year, recording work for film and how his latest venture was inspired by his cats.

Over the past 6 months I’ve travelled to some of the worlds biggest cities and with the greatest respect, nowhere beats the scene in Glasgow in terms of the diverse creativity happening. 

The Clyde Built compilations have documented this year after year and it's a great pleasure to work on them. Previous artists range from Cucina Povera to Hammer, Big Miz to Still House Plants, LAPS, Lo Kindre and loads more. Not to mention the many one off's and incredible projects that have formed and dissipated over the years - another exciting aspect which characterises the immediacy of the scene. 

Despite being twice the size of any of its previous successors, this year’s cast of tomorrow’s talent is no different - owing a lot to many random encounters and the community spirit as a whole for it coming together in the way it did. Life is the most effective algorithm. 

Scene stalwarts rub shoulders with the freshest of faces - turning in a solid cross section of contemporary hip hop, alongside pop edits, ambient, free jazz and plenty of cutting edge 4/4 bangers in all shapes and sizes - including political anthem of our time, MULK! Rest assured, it won’t be the last you’ll hear of this lot. 

As always, the compilation was mastered by LANDR and is available for FREE download. 

To mark the occasion, we're teaming up with the Healthy crew and hosting a party at Civic House on the 15th June with a variety of the Clyde Built contributors past and present. Check RA / FB for more..

Cru Servers - World Sucker

This improv piece is kind of like WANDA GROUP's tribute to his friend, Hav Lyfe. It's something WANDA made especially for the release of Hav Lyfe's debut album - it's kind of like an aural document of how he visualises the mysterious producer.  It's a 10 minute long barrage of drones and tones made in WANDA's own uncompromising style.

Material originally penned for a recent tour of Japan with fellow LA artist Matthewdavid, Sunsets and Clocks is a brand new EP from Anenon.

Consider how personal an experience it is to wait. When caught in the space of time before a thing happens, we unconsciously reveal ourselves through our ticks - physical manifestations of where we let our thoughts drift in this non-space. While waiting, each foot tapped, itch scratched and phone checked reflects the places we allow ourselves to explore before we have to jump back into formal time and space to perform.
 
Anenon recorded Sunsets and Clocks in the weeks directly preceding a whirlwind tour of Japan, where expectations and preconceptions (both false and true), collided over and over again in anticipation of the trip to come. In this collection of songs, Brian Allen Simon shares that intimate space, where he was both highly conscious of the relentless march of time and simultaneously removing himself from it, delving into an inner space where the lack of time smeared memories, fantasies, and fears into one another.
 
From the title, we can start to understand his headspace during this period, where the abstract concerns and artistic preparations for an international tour to a new country constantly collided with the pragmatic, binary problems of itineraries, exchange rates, and language barriers. These conflicting drives mirror the sharp contrast of the way the smudged shades of a fading sun mark the end of the day at the same time that the precision crafted gears of a timepiece click into place. 

We hear this theme reflected in how these pieces are unified by their maximal approaches to contrasts in the perception of time and meter, voice and tone. Anenon plays with this contrast through the shadowy textures of rhythm in the live improvisation of "We Yearn" and the meticulously interlocking beats driving "Ghost Light" and the title track. Boldly eschewing the use of the Rhodes and piano of his previous releases, these songs instead rely on the tenor sax and synthesizer. This new pairing fully realizes the theme in the marriage of the ethereal vibrations of the lungs and haunting accuracy of the keys.
