Benefits from the āyah, “Allāh is the Walī (Protector or Guardian) of those who believe. He brings them out from darkness into light.” [Sūrah al-Baqarah 2:257]
Reminding ourselves that every created being is in need of another but Allāh is not in need of any of His creation.
Being blessed with the wilāyah of Allāh, its fruits and how it is attained.
The great importance of correct ‘Aqīdah. 
Al-Baghawī, aṭ-Ṭabarī, as-Sa’dī and Ibn Kathīr regarding Allāh’s wilāyah and Him being sufficient for His servants.  
Āyāt regarding the wilāyah of Allāh.  
That which will return strength to the Muslims.
Having firm belief that nothing can stand in the way of Allāh’s Aid.
The promise of Allāh that He will wage war against those who show enmity to His awliyā.
How the Prophets met their problems/hardships. 
The need to constantly beg Allāh for thabāt (steadfastness).
Āyāt that show the truth is one and the deviant paths are numerous.
The darkness of kufr and shirk.
Reflecting upon our state before we were guided. 
The darkness of ignorance.
Carrying this knowledge with sincerity and how self-amazement can destroy a person.
Glad tidings for the awliyā of Allāh in this life and the hereafter. 
What our intention should be when seeking knowledge. 
Benefits from the āyah, “Is he who was dead (without Faith by ignorance and disbelief) and We gave him life (by knowledge and Faith) and set for him a light (of Belief) whereby he can walk amongst men, like him who is in the darkness (of disbelief, polytheism and hypocrisy) from which he can never come out? Thus it is made fair-seeming to the disbelievers that which they used to do.” [Sūrah al-An’ām 6:122]
The outcome of insincerity.
Striving to be a person who calls to good.

- Proof for the high status of the parents.
- The linguistic meaning of al-‘Uqūq.
- The meaning of the verse, “Those who break Allāh's Covenant after ratifying it, and sever what Allāh has ordered to be joined, and do mischief on earth, it is they who are the losers.” [Sūrah al-Baqarah 2:27]
- The definition of being undutiful to one’s parents from the statements of al-Qurṭubī, Ibn Ṣalāḥ, Ḥāfiz Ibn Ḥajar al-Asqalānī and Ibn Ḥajar al-Makkī (رحمهم الله). 
- The importance of knowing what is acceptable in one’s culture as it relates to dealing with one’s parents and the parents of one’s spouse.
- Determining the ḥukm (ruling) of an affair based on ‘urf (normal practice/custom of the people), and what should be done if there is differing in ‘urf.
- ‘Abdullāh b. ‘Umar (رضى الله عنهما) on causing one’s parents to cry.
- Ṭawūs b. Kaysān (رحمه الله) on the four categories of people it is from the Sunnah to honour.
- Ibn al-Qayyim (رحمه الله) on the one who leaves his family members to starve or remain unclothed.
- ‘Abdullāh b. ‘Amr (رضى الله عنهما) on the one who truly keeps the ties of kinship.
- Ten ill effects of being undutiful to one’s parents:
- 1. Ingratitude to Allāh.
- 2. The person deserves the curse of Allāh. 
- 3. Punishment/retribution is hastened in the dunyā before the ākhirah.
- 4. It is from the means and causes of entering the fire.
- 5. Allāh answers the du’ā of the father against his son who severed ties with him.
- 6. Barakah is stripped from his life.
- 7. Allāh will not look at him on the Day of Judgement.
- 8. Allāh does not accept from him ṣarf or ‘adl.
- 9. The blessing from his provisions is stripped away. 
- 10. Allāh will cut him off. 
- Maymūn b. Mihrān (رحمه الله) on three things that must be given to a person regardless of if they are righteous or wretched.

1. Is there ever a situation where you can mention the favour you did to someone, not to torment them but to remind them to have gratitude?
2. How does a person manage the relationship with his parents who dislike his practicing wife and cause marital conflict due to their disdain for Islām?
3. My father is a criminal and I find it hard to respect him. What advice do you give?

The Messenger’s ﷺ command to fear the dunyā, and that which he feared for us.

The advice of the Messenger ﷺ to Ibn ‘Umar (رضى الله عنهما), and how he understood and acted upon it.

Yaḥyā b. Mu’ādh (رحمه الله) on the dunyā being the devil’s intoxicant and the only point at which the intoxicated one will regain consciousness.

Ḥasan al-Baṣrī (رحمه الله) on the verse, “O mankind! Verily, the Promise of Allāh is true. So let not this present life deceive you, and let not the chief deceiver (Satan) deceive you about Allāh.” [Sūrah Faṭir 35:5]
