Introducing Esoteric Bass, the next movement of creativity from the underground.

Marked by the common themes of the abstract and surrealism, eccentric energy, a strong emphasis on songwriting, dense composition, and a vast pool of genre influences, Esoteric Bass encompasses the growing field of outsider approaches to the electronic underground.

It can be dark and twisted, but can also be energized and hopeful. The linking thread is the pervasive sense of strong oddity, the non-conformity to trends, and individualistic confidence.

I've been yearning to push more outsider mentalities into the communities I'm a part of, and with my label Unbeyond Anthologies making a mark on the underground's consciousness alongside a swath of artists daring to do things differently and be unapologetically themselves, now is the perfect time to go further than before. 

Bold styles and constant reinvention are the hallmarks of health and creativity in a scene, and I want to do my best to strengthen that in any way I can. And going forward, I will continue to platform the best and most bizarre in the scene with absolute confidence under this new umbrella.

Kicking off Unbeyond Anthologies’ first year in fine style, label boss Scavenger presents their debut EP: Forest Of Illusion.

Taking inspiration from cryptic horror, b-movie camp, and video game classics, Forest Of Illusion is a delightfully off-kilter debut, characterized by a fuzzy and surreal atmosphere. Scavenger’s abstract narrative is perfectly encapsulated in all six tracks, depicting a descent into madness deep in the belly of a forest… all told through heavy bass music.

“Forest Of Illusion embodies everything I love hearing in music.” said Scavenger on the subject of the EP. “Distinct character and novel ideas are really what I strive for the most in my art.”

“Opener ‘Forest Of Illusion’ is the thesis statement for the EP and my music as a whole: weird, wacky, and creepy. ‘Rudeboy’ is like drowning on LSD. ‘Mannequin’ sounds like getting stalked at night by something inhuman. Everything here is soaked in bizarre spooks.”

With this eccentric collection to display their undeniably singular style, Scavenger is set to stand out as one of underground bass music’s weirdest - and most promising - artists.

“The Candle of Truth”

It is said that in only the most shadowed corners of the world, in dark catacombs and hidden bunkers, cursed relics of ancient warlocks attempting to seek the power of prophecy reside inside. Candles of Truth were created millennia ago, and the answers provided by them drove their creators insane, leading to the living artifacts being hidden around the world.

They appear inert at first glance, and only spring to life when their wick is lit aflame. Their eyes then light up, and the brightness of their fire blasts visions of every moment of your future to you in a disorienting sequence until their wax is fully melted. This kind of information was not something that humanity could ever handle at once, however, and absolute insanity is nearly guaranteed.

It has been discovered, as previously mentioned, that these artifacts are indeed alive, and the process of burning them for answers is incredibly excruciating to them. It is highly advised that they are left to gather dust in subterranean storage throughout the world, as their inert state is like a dreamless coma. Best to let these creatures not experience that sort of pain.

The madness experienced by people exposed to the answers given by Candles of Truth drives them to truly horrible things, especially mass murder and occult activity. The price of understanding is far too grave for the benefit to ever be worth it, and lighting a Candle of Truth is one of the worst decisions one could ever make.

“Wax Blood” closes things out with the most high-octane energy of the project. The bells and jittery synth melody immediately make you feel like you’re present for the end of the world, and then the drops plunge into some of the most fiery flows I’ve ever written down. Even in the moments of downtime, there’s no relaxation as the suffocating atmosphere keeps things on edge. The entire track feels like constant panic, and ends off with feelings of unsolved questions, setting up Chapter 2.

For whom the bell tolls: "Hell Valley Sky Trees"

To celebrate over three years of the Scavenger alias, I wanted to go back to lost and forgotten tracks from my past and bring them up to my current standards. Introducing a song that has been in the vault since 2022: Hell Valley Sky Trees.

This sinuous and gurgling dubstep track is underpinned by the distant, melancholic chimes of bells, and is my love letter to the era of video game urban legends (hence the reference in the name). It's surreal, lighthearted yet unsettling and cryptic, a complete encapsulation of the themes of my discography. The fever dream-esque memory of this song is all too real, and it is finally seeing the light of day three years later.
