Greta Cottage Workshop's 'soul' purpose is to get great unheard electronic music into the world, with no compromise. There is no defining style here and releases range from slower more melodic jams to housier cuts and beyond. Curator and label head Matt Densham has put together a steady stream of releases from Greta Cottage (it's a real place!) in Torquay, Devon county since 2009 and the musical output is not unlike the landscape in the south-west of England - in one word, diverse. The label is also home to a radio show with a more upbeat approach which often features guests on Soundart FM every Saturday.

GCW's next release comes from Grimes Adhesif (soundcloud). The Wales-based producer is a bit of an unsung veteran in the scene with releases dating back almost two decades, with the majority of them coming out on his own label Mind Your Head Records. He's also part of a tight-knit crew of Welsh producers and DJs that includes the likes of Duckett, Tom Demac, Steevio and Suzybee the latter two of which also organize Freerotation, an annual intimate festival which Grimes Adhesif is booked to play every year.

His forthcoming EP "Clovelly" has apparently been in the works for quite some time, with our title track and premiere having been aired on GCW Radio over two years ago. 'Kalender Days' is a hypnotic tune featuring the late Alex Ookpik on vocals. Steady click-clacking percussion paired with some melancholic chords lend a mesmerizing air to the song which is further complemented by Alex's soothing vocals, appropriately reverberating in the background. Despite the slightly somber mood, Kalender Days is actually a fairly upbeat affair. With a rolling sub bass driving the groove, it's perfect for the wee hours.

The following excerpt by Mark Leckey best describes what inspires these guys: “I think music works best when it’s stupid, that’s why I like rave; I want to make stupid music where you’re not thinking, you’re reacting to what’s immediately in front of you and you’re trying to do it quickly. Fast music”

Behind The Sun (Dub) is the track that gives you first glimpse at the sound palette of this first record on russian label "Potential Move". Unlike many tracks with 303 bassline widely known for being used as a warehouse weapon knocking bricks hard out the wall, this track shows that it can have a bright, dreamy and somewhat, a romantic take on the genre delivering it in a very unusual way. The bassline is being accompanied with a blissful, lush pad adding a bit chorus and delay to taste creates a very harmonic vibe where all the elements are perfectly coming in together. If you’re looking for a jam that would be a soundtrack to your bright moments, don’t look no further - this one will do the trick without a doubt. The clouds pile up in the Dresden autumn sky, but Uncanny Valley still sees a little bit of blue on the horizon. And why not looking on the bright side of life for a change? It’s appropriate. At least if you have five killer tracks in your bag. Anyway, the collaboration with the Leipzig graphic designer Doppeldenk proved to be very fruitful and has now produced the fourth of seven children. So, after PINK, RED and ORANGE, here is BLUE. May life be good to you.

The record opens with the aptly titled, Chicago-inspired MIND TRIP by Credit 00, the Aldous Huxley from your neighborhood. The Leipziger takes you on a journey on your own nerve pathway with occasional stops at the hottest spots in your body. Local buddy Gnista is piling up layer by layer for the UK meets Electro affair that is PLAYTIME WORKTIME. It’s an atmospheric monster that needs to be climbed first. But as soon as this is done, a fresh breeze blows around your nose. In BRECHT HAT ER, the mysterious Dresden underground formation AGB spreads wisdom in staccato mode, accompanied by Cold Wave-like music, which could also have been created in the shadows of the Berlin Wall.

After a long time of hiatus, there is also a sign of life again from Uncanny Valley’s Break SL, who proves with BYE BYE 627 that he still masters the art of producing House music that is as edgy as it is catchy. In similar veines comes IN TRANSIT from Qnete who channels the ghosts in his machines into an emotional and powerful House track.

Managed and curated by Andy Green an old head, dancer, clubber, collector for 30 years. The label  now firmly established with a back-cat of respected 12’s and a compilation. The ambition of the vinyl releases is to release honest and interesting music across the spectrum of deep with no regard for trend or fashion : good music being ageless. This latest release is the 2nd of 2019 following on from the Receptor Theory EP which sold out rapidly. Joe Lucas creates music under a few monikers, most often as Causa and notably has appeared on Tusk Wax, Boogie Box and Birdie. The Causa sound elegantly touches on deep house grooves and melodic techno but with a fluid, contemporary style and is an obvious choice for the Verdant family. The Locks EP is released as Sixtyone leaning towards Detroit flavours with intricate percussion layered with warm soulful keys. Previous releases have attracted high profile remixes from Kuniyuki, Luv Jam and Young Marco and that trend continues on the Locks. On the flip, Stojche is back from his contribution to the Verdant double LP to slam a burly, peak time reshape of Zelo upping the Detroit vibes. Hiver's melodic, acid tinged releases have been a regular fixture on Andy’s own mixes so its big honour to have them join the Verdant team here. Their reshape of the delicate Tregnanton, adds a firm kick, swinging bassline and heady 303 sparkle wth dazzling effectiveness.

Starting as a label that served basically as a platform for their friends’ music in 2010, Uncanny Valley evolved into a record label that assembles acclaimed artists from the electronic music scene not only from the label’s base in Dresden but also from Germany and beyond. With a strong emphasis on the records’ artwork the label heads Philipp Demankowski, Conrad Kaden and Carl-Johannes Schulze are constantly on a mission to establish and refine the artists from the roster as well as to search for new talents. Artists as Jacob Korn, Cuthead, Credit 00, Massimiliano Pagliara, CVBox or Panthera Krause all feel at home on the label, giving them the chance to develop projects that are not only music related but can also integrate different art forms. With the two offshoots Rat Life and shtum under its belt, Uncanny Valley does not stand still to explore the full spectrum of electronic and not so electronic music from House via Disco, Hip-Hop or Ambient through to Techno. A range that can also be depicted when the three label heads come together for a DJ set as Uncanny Valley DJs.
