Uncanny Valley Radio (formerly known as UV Funk) is a radio show which is broadcast every third Friday from 9:30 pm to 11:00 pm on Dresden based community radio station coloRadio. Radio listeners in Dresden can tune in to the program on 98,3 or 99,4 MHz. Any other listeners can recall it here. The show is hosted by @philipp-demankowski and is all about stories, interviews and tracks out of the world of Cosmic Electronic Music.

The Bill Laswell Research Institute was coined by a group of like minded record heads based here in Philadelphia. Time and time again, someone in the crew would bring something mind blowing to a listening session and Bill's name would pop-up in the credits. This inevitably led to unraveling minds and eye opening conversations in the group, followed by more worm-hole like research where we realized the true prolificness and scope of one man’s breath of work. Now we know we were late to a party super fans have been having for years, but we are just happy to be at the party. It’s truly astonishing how Bill Laswell collided with vastly divergent musicians and genres while somehow still representing complementary musical spheres.

For Viscera 097, we welcome a special mix from Mayurashka!

'Mayurashka is a DJ and electronic music producer based in Tokyo, Japan. She played at nightclubs and music festivals in Japan as DJ over the past decade. She also made some DJ mixes for international labels and radios such as Born Free, Animals Dancing, NTS Radio, Skylabradio, XLR8R etc. She has started producing electronic music since 2020.

In December 2021, she participated in the compilation cassette "Donne Che Corrono Coi Lupi" released by the Amsterdam label "osare editions" with two tracks. In March 2022, she released her first single "waterskipps EP" on the Japanese label "Lady Bug".

In April 2022, her work appeared in an omnibus album "ORDINARY DREAMS VOL.
2" released by an Australian label "planet trip". In August 2022 she participated in a compilation co-produced by Osàre! Editions and XLR8R. More releases are planned in the future.'

In the words of Mayurashka "This mix was a record-only mix that I recorded shortly before I entered the Corona disaster. I had planned to upload it somewhere, but the mood of Corona and my mood had put it in storage."

Still don't have a good feeling about UEFA, but football is still a great sport to watch, at least for UV Radio host @philipp-demankowski and regular guests @conrad-kaden and Gunnar. So despite all controversies, there was no way around it: Having already done a special for EURO 2020, they've done a Football special again, this time for EURO 2024. The rules are the same: you get eight countries from the participating field and have to choose a nice song from each country. The result is an entertaining show with 24 not-so-typical football anthems.

Here's the new radio show straight out of the studio from none other than @stachy, a true legend who has been living his daily life in Dresden for a few years now, but has a career that spans all sorts of roots in music, with a respectable background in hip-hop and a decent career in pop music under his belt. To this day, he just can't get enough of music, be it in an academic context, as a versatile electronic music producer, a passionate lover of ambient and vaporwave or as a fun DJ. For the show, he dives deep into his Polish roots with this special version of Baltic Balearica, which he calls Bigos a la Balearic. Have fun!

Uncanny Valley Radio 095 - Best of 2024

Dancers have to train hard and perform with a rough edge, conveying emotions with as much acting ease as possible. At the end it also requires choreography, clothing, lighting and the appropriate set with lots of helping hands. The bigger the show, the more people are involved. With a few exceptions, it also needs sound, rhythm or just a appropriate soundscape. Sometimes existing music is used because it is structurally well suited to the piece. Other times, working with composers and musicians is the best way to put your own stamp on the piece bringing things to the point.
 
@sandrow_m has been working with choreographers and dance piece makers for several years. With this compilation he presents 20 different pieces of music that were either used because of their suitability or were created. There is no attempt to present the entire spectrum, which would not be possible in 90 minutes anyway. Nevertheless the compilation contains various styles, for which, with a little patience, you can try to find corresponding film material on the Internet to complete your listening experience.

Starting as a label that served basically as a platform for their friends’ music in 2010, Uncanny Valley evolved into a record label that assembles acclaimed artists from the electronic music scene not only from the label’s base in Dresden but also from Germany and beyond. With a strong emphasis on the records’ artwork the label heads Philipp Demankowski, Conrad Kaden and Carl-Johannes Schulze are constantly on a mission to establish and refine the artists from the roster as well as to search for new talents. Artists as Jacob Korn, Cuthead, Credit 00, Massimiliano Pagliara, CVBox or Panthera Krause all feel at home on the label, giving them the chance to develop projects that are not only music related but can also integrate different art forms. With the two offshoots Rat Life and shtum under its belt, Uncanny Valley does not stand still to explore the full spectrum of electronic and not so electronic music from House via Disco, Hip-Hop or Ambient through to Techno. A range that can also be depicted when the three label heads come together for a DJ set as Uncanny Valley DJs.

Philipp Demankowski from Dresden has never understood why so many DJs tend to use just one genre to make people dance. Since even the most innovative music is a melting pot of all of its influences in the end, an atmospheric DJ set can be diverse too. This approach is not only important for his mixes but also in Philipp’s radio show UV Funk on Dresden based community radio station coloRadio. Also, he's one of the heads behind Uncanny Valley and its sub labels Rat Life and shtum.

Everything started in 2006 as part of the DJ team The Moroders and with their wild Cosmic Dancer parties which were the first opportunity for Dresden’s Disco and House heads to see artists like Todd Terje, Tensnake, Mr Raoul K or Runaway. Club series like Still Going, an afterhour tribute to the sun, as well as the underground club night Sweat Box followed. Recently he established a Sunday dance called Balearic Sunday which turned out to be an awesome sunny party for everybody loving eclectic DJ-sets. Also, Philipp has played festivals like Nachtdigital and Melt! and most probably in one of your favorite clubs next door.
