Mentored by one of the geniuses of the Portuguese Bass scene, the wonderful late Razat, RIP, Carlos Salgueiro, producing under the moniker Dead End, has come from deep hip-hop roots to passionately embrace what has been labelled as the ‘future sound’ of Bass music. Tasteful pallets of abstract, ethereal structures, raw powered-up bass movements and artfully composed, but heavy as fuck, beats are just some of the ingredients.”

A few of the more open-minded Bass scenes including Bristol, Denver and Shenzhen, to name a few, have been embracing this crunchy, ‘Wonkay’ universe of Halftime for years now. Unchained are very much part of the this religion, operating under the same guiding principle….. “a bent frequency is a good frequency”

Enter Dead End with his “Strapped” EP. Whilst we envision that this release may not necessarily be for the old school head, we love this for its dirty aesthetic, tidal wave low-end and for its effect on unsuspecting dancefloors.

Hospital Records’ São Paulo discovery Urbandawn is a serious contender. After releasing two popular EPs with the label and spending several months determined in the studio his debut album ‘Gothenburg Cluster’ is ready.

Seventeen tracks of sophisticated sound design unite punching drum beats, funk ridden riffs and huge cinematic explorations. The experienced audio engineer not only draws from his Brazilian roots but also the more niche rock, metal and folk bands of the Swedish mid 90’s scene. It’s this distinctive spin on drum & bass that’s grown support from the scene's heavyweights over the last two years.

It was ‘Trindade’ - discovered deep in Hospital’s demo box - that first brought Urbandawn to London Elektricity’s attention. He's been tipped as 'The Future Sound of Brazil' with ‘Messiah Complex’ and ‘Pavlov’s Dog’ that have stayed permanently in the label boss' record box and getting dancefloor’s moving across the world.

‘Still Breathing’ featuring Med School prodigy Keeno, is an emotive match of ethereal piano and staccato strings. When sat next to the face-slapping impact of ‘Foley Funk’ and the bright, vocal powerhouse in 'Together Again' it’s clear how Urbandawn’s creative flare can adapt to different styles of drum & bass with consistent brilliance.

Esteemed Russian D+B producers Bop x Subwave are back with the second release under their new collaborative project. The four-track ‘Dream On’ EP is a perfect encapsulation of the pair’s style, seamlessly infusing their sounds to create a unique and refreshing project whereby the duo have once again tested the boundaries of D+B moving into the realms of garage and lo-fi jungle.

Kicking off the EP is ‘Higher Dimension’, a synthwave-infused D+B number with a dark twist. Dreamlike vocals drenched in reverb combined with nostalgic synths and an unforgiving bassline set the listener up for what’s to come. The minimal yet soulful ‘Escape From U’ follows, bringing crisp percussion and melancholic vibes to this sublime stepper.

‘Lo-Fi Romance’ leads the way for the second half of the EP. Airy pads and bare-bone breaks lay the foundations for this simple yet sophisticated liquid roller. Switching up the vibe yet staying true to the distinct Bop x Subwave sound, ‘Haze’ rounds off the EP, taking things down to 130BPM territory. A clear homage to the sounds of the UK underground with garage-influenced drums and a hard hitting sub.

After the success of their debut EP ‘Love & Other Drugs’ including a number 1 track in the Beatport Garage chart, appraisal from key electronic music publications such as DJ Mag and Resident Advisor as well as radio support across BBC Radio 1, Rinse FM and Reprezent, it’s set to be a huge year for the duo project.

The annual summer album from the south-London based imprint provides a soundtrack for a time in our lives that has changed every one of us. From their homes to yours, their weekly virtual parties have allowed us to come together under the shared love for 174 beats per minute.

The album is packed with 32 brand new original tracks, collaborations and remixes to make sure that good vibes and even better music are in plentiful supply, featuring the likes of Camo & Krooked, Flava D, London Elektricity, S.P.Y, Kings Of The Rollers, Degs, Logistics and Makoto, seamlessly blended together by Nu:Tone on the continuous mix.

Delivering everything you’d expect plus more, Urbandawn’s ‘Carnival Blues’ is a nod to his eclectic musical background.The Sao Paulo-based sonic architect canvasses vibrations from around the world into an untestable drum & bass cruncher. Villem sets the compilation in motion with ‘We Had A Song’ ft Leo Wood, a 2020 cover of a classic by the progressive contemporary icons The Roots - “You Got Me”. Villem infuses drum & bass with neo soul and hip hop to create a sublime liquid bouncer drenched in moreish guitar riffs and comforting strings.

His first release since his seventh studio album, Hospital head-honcho London Elektricity has teamed up again with the Stockholm-based Bulgarian Goddess, providing stunning orchestral sounds in ‘Someone Once Gave Me A Melody’. Camo & Krooked meet Pola & Bryson on their official remix of ‘Turn Up (The Music)’. Incorporating the anthemic synth and vocal leads from the original, brisk breaks and growling basses flip the tune on its head turning it into a sub-heavy summer striker.

Embarking on an interplanetary journey through bass-ridden black holes, powerhouse trio Kings Of The Rollers have stepped up with ‘Saturn’s Strings’, plus ‘The Prophet’ which marks Voltage’s first solo release on Hospital Records. The compilation also sees an exciting release from dance music duo My Nu Leng as they join forces with Dread MC on ‘Worldwide’, a tearout destroyer that draws for system shaking basslines.

Whilst they won’t be able to unite the Hospital family and wider drum & bass community this summer, Hospital Records and Hospitality continue to supply the highest calibre of music, no matter what the circumstances.

Undoubtedly one of the most exciting acts to have emerged in drum & bass over the past decade, Voltage has joined forces with Hospital Records for the release of his long-awaited studio album ‘Balance Over Symmetry’ which marks the tenth year of his journey as a solo artist. No stranger to the Hospital family with an album, 2 EPs and a handful of singles under his belt as part of drum & bass powerhouse group Kings Of The Rollers, it’s now time to explore the solo sounds of Voltage which have slowly but surely carved him to be one of the most respected DJ & producers in the scene.

In his true rambunctious style, Voltage sets the swing with a wild card. ‘So Close’ is a sub-120BPM synthwave weapon which matches his retro-inspired fashion to his musical vibrations. The combination of catchy vocals, an 80s-esque bassline and an unforgettable topline melody sees the creation of something extremely different yet irresistible from Voltage. Not straying too far from the roots of his influences, ‘Natty Love’ features the groove inducing vocals of sound system legend Sweetie Irie.
