London based Undaground Therapy Muzik affiliate Al Zanders makes a welcome return to Roy Davis Jr.’s imprint this summer with Stars of IG. After a brief hiatus the A-Z Records founder and Balamii mainstay has created a playful, Chicago house and Nu-disco inspired three tracker.

“In a similar vein to the Guidance EP, this is a nod to the classic sounds of Chicago house and Nu-disco, done in Zander's own style. Roy, alongside producers such as Quincy Jones, Boo Williams and Soichi Terada all influenced the deep and melodic sound of this release. B2 'With Racionzer' features the very talented Ben Racionzer on the trumpet”. Al Zanders 

Title track Stars of IG demonstrates how Zanders is a master of blending unique samples and grooves to create a cohesive sound. Highlighting the artist’s skill at using percussion to its full potential, the track builds into a mischievous yet serene soundscape. Continuing the theme of jazz laced house, Spring Boo is a sophisticated number, with glitchy samples layered over a shimmering baseline. Renowned for his soulful sampling and use of live instrumentation the slick Racionzer is last up, with the track name referencing Zander’s collaboration with musician
Benjamin Racionzer on trumpet.

Originally from Sheffield, Zanders first released on UTM in 2018 with his Guidance EP, breaking the label’s sixteen year hiatus in not releasing any music. Regularly supported by his peers, Zander’s music has featured in Midland’s Dekmantel Boiler Room, Gilles Peterson’s 6 Music show, Leon Vynehall’s BBC Essential Mix, Denis Sulta’s Mixmag Cover mix and more. Zander’s track Long Gone on Blind Jacks Journey recently surpassed 3 million streams on Spotify.

Tapping into the sounds of deep, soulful house and disco originating from around the world, Zanders' sets have seen him touring globally. Whether it’s a small basement club in Tokyo, XOYO in London or festivals including Lost Village and Gotwood. Started in 2016, Zander’s A-Z Records is still based in Sheffield and thanks to its diverse and bold output tastemakers including Mixmag, Resident Advisor, Boiler Room and DJ Mag have all supported the
label.

Toy Tonics welcome one of the US’ absolute legends in the game on their roster - Kai Alcé!  One of the original masters of jazzy house, Kai is a prime example of someone who witnessed the genesis of Detroit’s electronic musical landscape and strives to keep that spirit alive. Being of Haitian descent laid the foundation for his musical ear, starting with his childhood in Queens, New York. Some of his earliest musical influences included his mother’s penchant for soca music and the distinct Caribbean rhythms of his culture. An appreciation of Jazz would be further guided by his father’s expanding audiophile home system. During the 1970s the kindling of Hip Hop and the heyday of Disco perked the ear of a young Kai while they were living in NYC. The Big Apple would remain a constant throughout his musical journey as the years went on, but it was the move to Michigan that ultimately shaped his artistic vision.

On this 5 track EP Kai once again makes it all feel so easy! Deeply musical, yet also instantly effective on the dance floor, tracks like ‘New Life Livin’ and ‘Slide It In’ come with an ease that shows why he’s shaped the game for decades.

Two years after his first release on our label we are very glad to have “Love Will Say No” from northern Italy back with another stellar mix of styles mini album/ extended EP! From Dark Disco to Cut up House and soulful Groove, you can find it all in this beautiful package of songs. Always looking to the farther left field side of dance music and never forgetting the strength of the dance floor sound, something that really touches us and makes us proud to release, certainly what Dirt Crew always stood for in our 20 years of existence. A true unique style!

This time we let the artist himself put some words on the tracks as it really describes his sound in the best possible way;
Carry the Fire - One of my musical myths since I was a kid is for sure the birth of Hip Hop and those early days.

Kool Herc and the merry-go-round, those breaks, those grooves, the essence of dancing stripped to the bone. Even today, with all that technology available, that must be the seed of what we’re doing. So this track is my tribute to that. And happens to be released exactly 50 years after the birth of Hip Hop. The title is a reference from “The Road” by Cormack McCarthy, and also if I chose that when he was still alive, in the end happened to be a tribute also to him.

Time Is the Perfect Lover - Yes it is. Damn power of memories to distort the reality of our past, tryin’ to trick us.

You’ll Know When - A French touch track like many I wrote in more than 20 years, but full of the bittersweet eyes of a 40 years old man.
When you’re 20, you hope for things to happen. When you’re 40, you hope to be able to recognise when things happen.

Gonna Summer - First track I wrote as Love Will Say No, almost 10 years ago. Never satisfied with the first result, I wanted to give new life to it. The Roulé seed is still there, the mellon collie rhodes chords too, but now the groove is working for a late sunset as I always hoped.

Red Window - Summer. Late night. Making music in my apartment. Too hot. Almost pitch dark outside on the streets, with no sound a round. Just one single window in sight. With a red light. Never discovered anything more.

This War Is Finally Lost - Ending a relationship, of any kind, could be a relief. Even if we lose. Winning is not important anymore as is ending. Exactly like wars.

The fledgling Deeppa label is back with a seventh sublime sound, this time from Eloi who brings plenty of fresh ideas and creative sound designs to four tasteful cuts. 'You'll Keep Going' is a lush late-night fusion of noodling basslines and jazzy chords with soulful vocals and 'Karma' then gets even more horizontal in balmy chords and lazy grooves. There is a little more bite to 'Manage Your Temper' but it is still a super cuddly house sound. On the flip, 'Mental Game' offers hazy late-night reveries and 'Confusion' is a swirling mix of warm and soulful house. 'A Few More Breaks Should Do The Trick' is a jazzy and zoned-out closer. What an EP.

PREMIERE: Eloi - You'll Keep Going [Deeppa]

This EP evokes the atrocity that the creative process can sometimes be, and aims to show little by little that ultimately everything happens for the best as long as you believe in it until the end. The massacre of the Sioux is the main reference, their descendants having believed in it until the end and having finally obtained justice recently. 1st solo EP for De La Groove, Sioux Falls EP is a six tracks project oscillating between deep house, strong basslines and also soulful flavors with powerful vocals and groovy chords inspired mostly by the era of the 90s Chicago house music.

Sioux Falls EP is the result of several months of research for a deep and pure sound capturing the essence of electronic dance music. The rhythms and sounds used are greatly inspired by the sounds of the 90s with a touch of modernity in their digital use.

Here we are for the 4th round of @Apparel-Wax and a crazy one indeed for all the lovers of the vinyl masked man, a release that expresses 4 different nuances of House. Few words are needed to describe the debut of the vinyl with A1 track which is a rarely powerful combination of 2.0 Dance Music and 80’s vibes, a proper slap in the face to kick it off! Our unknown DJ then shifts to a more sensual mode with A2, where funky guitar shades and smooth chords blended with the vocals that drag us on a more intimate level of listening to keep on traveling on a lower tone. B side starts with a track guided by weaving Jazzy rhythmics dialoguing hectically with Samba and some jungle environmental recordings, creating a super personal interpretation of Brazilian Jazzy House, while to end up the 4th trip on Wax Planet, B2 blesses us with some more classic vibes with a sharp string’s melody and a rich bassline guided silently by a Rhodes piano and some pungent and melancholic female vocals, to end it up in style. Full project curated by Giuseppe D’Alessandro, mastered by Stefan Eichinger aka LOPAZZ, distributed by Wordandsound, published by Apparel Music.
