Arriving on There Is Love On You, following killer releases from Posthuman, Denham Audio and Saturday Night Rush, comes a sci-fi soaked five-tracker spanning headsy techno, proggy-trance and chugging ethereal noise from ‘Us’ founder Desire, who heads the project that aims to ‘shine the light on queer people’ through releases and mixes.

‘Express Self Love’ sounds much like the expression of ecstasy. Spacey atmospheric and ear-wriggle acid lines meet in a dimly lit room with dark techno, electro and trance for a proper heads-down affair. ‘Dernier Souffle’ is a cut of contemporary progressiveness being championed by labels such as Kalahari Oyster Cult and Butter Side Up - minimal, malfunctioning and dubbed-out goodness.

‘Keep Moving’ maintains a meaty bassline that threatens to overflow at almost every turn – moments of celestial high-ends emotional transfixation sparkle amongst the tough-as-nails techno – before ‘Incisiveness’ follows up with what might be the fun-loving twin of its predecessor; a cut of peak moment, intellectual techno-trance. 

The tempo comes down on ‘Voyage Infini’; a chugging cut of transcendental synthwave best played as the sun is just coming up.

London-based producer Gesture delivers a dynamic display of mutated breaks and beat wizardry on "Check Sum" the 12th release from Redstone Press. Pseudopolis rounds off the four-track EP with an acid-drenched, free-party reminiscing remix.

On "Check Sum", Gesture channels weighty, distorted bass hits, wobbly breakbeats, and tense, hazy pads into a dark sonic offering. Swedish artist Kajsa Villius lands on Enno’s Manual Smiles imprint with the five-track ‘Baltic Blue’ EP, following recent instalments on the label by Nickon Faith, FROND, and Command Control. Throughout the release, Villius showcases her expert feel for groove through layers of alien sonics, each element serving a purpose while they zap, beep, and whirr. Title track ‘Baltic Blue’ hits the ground running as a progressive techno-meets-trance cut, an unfiltered bassline coursing through hard-hitting kicks as its melodies bounce along liquid 303s, faint sounds of a mysterious creature echoing inside the soundscape. 

Kajsa Villius continues with ‘Hear Me Nix’, a pumping kick-bass combo hooking us from the start as skittering percussion and aquatic synths work together before dropping into high-energy dance floor fury. Emerging from the waters, Kajsa’s ‘Baltic Blue’ EP enters the sweltering sounds of ‘Heat Wave’, in which she opts for bursts of raw low-end, dubstep rhythms and foreboding synth hits for a left-field curveball that’s sure to spin some heads before ‘Serpent’s Deep’ submerges again via a whirlpool of droning sequences and snaking acid lines for six minutes of mind-melting psychedelia. ‘Sweet Inferno’ then is the ultimate trance closer in which gated vocals alternate organic percussion as its scorching bassline hypnotises, dropping the curtain on this stylish and eclectic collection of intergalactic sounds. 

Based between Stockholm and Berlin, Kajsa Villius has put out releases on Hörz Audio and Manual Smiles veteran Kitsta’s Megababes imprint. She now offers her forward-thinking, club-ready sounds to Manual Smiles with her own entry on the label via the ‘Baltic Blue’ EP, already supported by the likes of D. Tiffany, Elena Colombi, Daniel Avery, HAAi and Spray.

There’s a gravity to revisiting something personal and placing it in new hands. For Blossom Hill, the Home Colours Remix EP (out 14th January 2024 via Loose Fit Records) is exactly that, a reinterpretation of the original LP’s deeply personal narrative, distilled into four club-ready remixes that reimagine the tracks for the dancefloor.

For this project, Blossom Hill enlisted a carefully chosen roster of remixers Facta, Debba, Kin Teal, and Pépe each known for their adventurous approaches to sound design. “As it was my first ever release, I was perhaps a little precious about the original tracks,” Blossom Hill shares. “Releasing the music was the first catharsis, but handing over the stems feels like the second stage, the beginning of a fresh and exciting new life for these ideas.”
Facta offers a cohesive, techno-leaning take, while Kin Teal injects footwork influences with his own distinctive twist. Debba sharpens the edges with a tougher UK sensibility, and Pépe delivers a beautifully abstract, atmospheric reinterpretation that expands on the original.

At its core, the Home Colours Remix EP embodies the duality of music as both deeply personal and inherently communal. While the original LP explored fluid genre spaces and complex emotions, the remix EP hones in on rhythm and energy. For Blossom Hill, it’s not just a remix project it’s the continuation of a narrative, one that now lives in a shared space, reshaped by collaboration and ready for the dancefloor.
