“This week’s Junto project has always been one of my favourites – so I recorded the first third of what will eventually become a trio. I played it on my Tele through a simple, straightforward signal chain of Chase Bliss Mood (the main sound), fed through a Dark Star and a Polymoon to add space and variations in terms of timbre. No further editing in the DAW. I went for as sparse a track as I could, to provide as much space as possible for my potential collaborators. My hope is that you feel inspired by my “almost crumbling to pieces” vibe, and I look forward to hearing what you will be adding over the coming weeks for it to become a trio recording.”

My own additional process notes - 
On 3/15, I recorded about 9 minutes of prepared cuatro and picked some bits I liked for this piece. I used a few native Ableton Live effects, panned to right.

The right side was made with a meaty and glassy combo instrument using Pigments and Falcon. 
Following the approach of the original track on the left, I made a sparse arrangement, with plenty of air and spectrum for future collaborators.

two loops of vinyl glitch and a filtered techno beat give forward motion to several layers of piano and live guitar, tuned down and tone rolled off to make it sound like a bass guitar. the high end rapidly rolls off near the end to "de-arch" everything.

The intention is to illustrate the passing; peacefully, into darkness, into light.

Starting with a simple arpeggio on the Vintage Vibe, running through a Space Echo, followed by a slow and mellow bass on the Moog One and a bit of space glitter from the Waldorf Quantum. Finished off with an ambiguous melody on the Moog.

Recorded in Logic Pro X with a Soundcraft MTK22.

“Take the sound of the stone aging.” At first I thought about this in the geological sense. Then I came to the conclusion that aging basically just means living. So what are stones up to when they live their secret lives when nobody is watching? What’s their sound? I imagined it being something cheeky and a little funky, kind of slow but danceable.

Disquiet0643 - Cheeky Stones Funk

I'm sharing two sound-sketches from my all analogue soundtrack for the German expressionistic horror classic "The Cabinet of Dr Caligari" from 1919. The full score was performed live at the Vault, NCCA, Darwin, Australia, 6th June year. Nothing programmed or pre recorded.

"mesmerizing" "trance-like" "haunting" were some of the positive responses I received.

Tech stuff:
Small modular system, including a sequencer, theremin, open chamber spring reverb, RF Nomad, Woggle Bug and a few more modules, slaved to a Buchla Music Easel. In addition was a generous and musical use of a Roland Space Echo.
