Happy Friday, WUMP fam! We’ve got the perfect antidote to your Inauguration Day blues: an 8-minute collaborative piece by Pi Wrecks and Sektor Z that’s sure to bring a smile to your face and some warmth to your heart center. Pi Wrecks continues to turn heads in the electro soul community, and this collaboration with guitarist/producer, Sektor Z, is a match made in heaven- they seem to truly bring out the best in each other. “Get It Together” showcases Sektor Z’s bluesy guitar riffs and catchy melodies that you’ll be humming all day long, starting off smooth and evolving into a beat-driven masterpiece that’ll inevitably get your body moving. “Get It Together” demonstrates that it can sometimes take more than just a few minutes to tell a complete story, as certain elements that are introduced early on come to fruition in the final minutes. Although this song has some higher energy, bassy sections of gritty, funky goodness, it’s all about the movement and feeling. We hope you surrender to the sound waves fully and listen with the your full attention, because the result is a really powerful, cathartic emotional experience. 

This one truly takes the listener on a journey, with snippets from the great Alan Watts interjected sparingly to carry the narrative. This narrative speaks to something we all share: the unyielding feeling that we’re not good enough, that we need to improve ourselves, that we need to “Get It Together.” This feeling of ‘dhukka,’ or fundamental dissatisfaction, seems to be an unavoidable condition of human existence, but much of this self-judgment is merely a symptom of the consumerist culture in which we live. We’re told that we aren’t good enough, and that we should buy more and consume more in order to fill the emptiness that we feel within. When we step back and recognize the external, malicious motivators that we’ve internalized as our own, we can be liberated from those feelings of unworthiness, on the consumerist side of things. It’s important to continue to learn, grow, and improve yourself in REAL ways, but not to the point of desperation and self-loathing that many of us are consumed by.

Pi Wrecks and Sektor Z would like to dedicate this song to their late friend, Sean Byrne, who tragically passed away earlier this week. Sean continuously inspired those around him with his incredible rapping talent and contagiously energetic live performances, which made him a staple in the MA hip-hop scene. This loss weighs heavily on the hearts of many of his friends, loved ones, and musical peers, and he will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, Sean.
