Not just a cute title, Cologne’s Kessler has dropped an absolute missile of an EP for his Pets debut right here. Four tracks of stone cold party denters, the lead track says it all: pure drum machine poetry, all jacking and soul-hacking, ‘Party Like You’re Not Alive’ could easily raise the dead. It’s backed by three more remarkable weapons: The brilliantly-titled ‘Cowbell Lizard’ takes us deep into the lungs of the bassbins with grainy drums and a bassline so heavy and laced with human soul you’ll swear you can hear it breathing, ‘Trance Balance’ plays percussion ricochet between your ears above a relentless groove while ‘Outsider’s Dance Rhythms’ swings with such a hefty acid house vibe, all trippy snare rolls and humanised tones, it makes us all feel like insiders… Whether we’re dead or alive.

Bryan Kessler - Outsiders Dance Rhythm

Shibuya-based British DJ/producer Nepo launches his Plus Future Records imprint with two stripped-back original cuts and a remix from Canada’s Jay Tripwire.

Splitting his time between Japan and the UK, Nepo has performed at fabric, Lion & Lamb, and Zubar, as well as appearances for Hoxton FM, Bloop London Radio and Noods Radio. After many years spent in the DJ booth and in the studio, he now helms his own label, Plus Future Records: a platform for artists to produce sounds outside of their comfort zones.

With its precision kicks and syncopated snares, ‘Anything’ is a dark and mesmerising cut designed for the afterhours courtesy of subterranean melodies, purring subbass and murky atmospherics. In his remix, Tripwire adds a little more shuffle and swing as glitchy arpeggios join dubby stabs and echoing vocal cries. Tying it all together, ‘Sapphire’ is a deep and introspective number that incorporates striking instrumental samples, quivering delayed synths and reverberating effects.
