The world feels a bit colder these days. To keep your hearts warm, Etui Records has opened the winter camp again. We invited artists from Australia, Italy and Germany to deliver a musical fireplace of dub and deep techno.

The third installment of Etui Winter Camp starts with the laid-back moods of Answering No Questions by Matthias Springer and great rhodes sounds in The Receiver by Simon Mann. Dresden´s new artist Planetary Secrets dives into an ocean of chords with his They Have Been Here and Frank Hellmond shapes the dub house sound in his SH2000. Dandytracks of Vekton tell part 2 of their Dubstories About Us.

With his Ascending new Italian artist Drafted proves that Detroit techno and minimalism is always a great combination. Planetary Secrets interprets also dub and techno in a minimalist way with his Courtyard. It´s followed by the fluffy The Wind Up from Sydney´s very own Trinity and the deep chords of Helly Larson´s Inside.

At the end of this year´s compilation Etui Records label head Insect O. shows his love for hypnotic driven techno in his track Kondor and Melbourne´s Silver Ash spread some chord funk across the dancefloors with his Meranti. Can dub techno sounds happy? Of course! May the world feels a bit warmer with this.

Etui Winter Camp 3 will be out as digital album incl. 11 tracks and special edition in white vinyl incl. 4 tracks limited to 300 copies.

Belgium based Say What? Recordings is run by prolific producer Ramon Tapia, which he established back in 2012. It’s back with a bang this year, with their next offering in 2017 with the “Surrender” EP.

The second release on the label for 2017 comes from Ramon Tapia himself and Rik Watts. The duo saw their first release as a collab project earlier this year on Gem Records with their highly acclaimed “Snuss” EP.

The original mix “Surrender” has a thumping low end, with a strong kick drum and swinging percussion with a hint of funkiness. The echoing vocal stabs lighten up the tone, reminiscent of terrace tech house vibes at its best.

Ramon brings a solo production to the EP with “Thrust”. With a clean kick and rumbling bassline, topped off with filtering synth lines throughout the track, this one is set to go off, day or night.

The remix on this EP comes from Birmingham based Kikdrm. Now solo, but originally known as one half of the duo TN.T - his first Say What? EP was released back in January this year. The UK producer, shows his style with a chilled day time groovier re-work of the original.

As soon as we began tracking @Davis-Genuino on our radar, we were immediately struck by the range of talent and taste that distinguishes him as a DJ and producer. The head of In Their Feelings alongside good friend Zopelar and the driving force behind of one of Sao Paulo's hottest parties, ODD, Davis now surprises all as he docks on ENDLESS with his 'Watu' Ep, exhibiting an all too rare versatility as he reprograms his fusion of world music and electronica with maniacal attention to detail. 

Watu and Forbidden provide the deepest and most melodic moments from the EP, while Yuma delves into darker waters, as a true techno masterpiece, with which Davis reaches the highest peak of tension and deservedly earns space in the peak time searches.

As might be expected, @LucaBacchetti captures the listeners attention with a remix distinguished by percussive elements within an arrangement characterised by repeated changes of scene: just as the record appears to draw to a close, it surprises us again with another killer break.

Forward Strategy Group present Labour Division, their debut album that follows a string of releases on Perc Trax, their own eponymous label, Stroboscopic Artefacts and Dynamic Reflection. Since their early days releasing on net labels to their current position amongst Europe's most respected techno outfits the Leeds/Edinburgh duo of Al Matthews (Smear) and Patrick Walker have always done things their own way. Drawing on their vast knowledge of electronic music's history Patrick and Al produce music where notable reference points are fused with new ideas to create their own distinctive sound.

Labour Division finds the Forward Strategy Group at their most melodic but also their most brutally uncompromising. Throughout the album the tracks shift between a range of atmospheres and timbres which in turn guide the listener though a number of different listening states, holding their attention and encouraging active listening rather than the passive, barely-there engagement often induced by less adventurous electronic albums.

The first five tracks aim to grab the listener's attention from the very first bar, whilst the tracks making up the second half of the album go deeper the listener, introducing more immersive sounds that hint at influences far beyond the realms of dancefloor techno.

Album opening 'Ident' surprises from its opening moments, being more melodic than you have ever heard the Forward Strategy Group before. The track harks back to the synth workouts of the 1980's but coated in a layer of industrial grime that sets out an aesthetic that runs through the rest of the album. Mandate and Elegant Mistakes both revolve around the kind of semi-broken rhythms which have been a characteristic of both the Forward Strategy Group's output and that of the Perc Trax label of late. The former track builds up layers of delayed stabs and whilst the latter has echoes of classic UK hardcore as the distinction between drum sounds and processed human voices begins to blur.

From then on the duo serve up a blend of metallic percussion and reverberant stabs, effortlessly switching from widescreen soundscapes to razor sharp exercises in minimalism. Metal Image and Industry & Empire trade on their depth whilst Cultivar rounds off the album hinting at post-punk guitar textures without you ever being sure if your ears are hearing live instrumentation or not.

As you reach the end of the album it is clear that this is one of the rare occasions when a collaboration is exactly that, a meeting and melding of the history and skills of two individuals to create a cohesive album that is the key moment for the Forward Strategy Group so far and opens up endless possibilities for their work after the album
