'The Secret Room' 3.13.16 THE LOST BMC INTERVIEW

The artist used a clairvoyant to contact 1940s director, writer, actor, and radio personality Orson Welles, interviewing him and transcribing the resulting speech for a voice actor to perform. During his life, Welles’ public persona was greatly influenced by key features like his signature baritone and penchant for trickery. 

Conceptually, the deceased American auteur ‘speaks through’ and directs the clairvoyant, and through him the actor, who in turn influences the listener.
The title refers to a style of telephonic enunciation often used to convey not only clarity but also a sense of status.

Voice: Adrian Galley. The project was curated by Rahma Khazam and commissioned for the Palais de Tokyo’s Répondeur, a monthly, curated show where artists make works for the exhibition space’s answering machine.
