From the point of view of the Vedic scriptures, the soul is an indestructible atom of consciousness, a carrier of a special quality: the ability to be aware of being. Matter itself has no consciousness and is not capable of being an observer. The soul is tiny, like an atom, and it can be felt by a perfect mind.
