What pushed you towards DJing?

i was so young when started dj'ing. i can say that i was a good listener in many different kind of genres such as rock, funk, dnb, nu jazz, house. it was so fun for me to be a selector first. then i sned many hours on turntables and cd players for mixing and got dj'ing skills after all. but at the end to choose good music for the crowd and make them dance is the most beautiful thing for me and i think thats the answer of your question.

Where did the inspiration come from?

first of all i introduce my self as a listener. if you search my itunes library you can see many different genres from house to folk, from metal to arabesk, from traditional turkish music to funk. so i feed my soul from many different weins.  but maybe the common thing can be groove i can say.

Do you think music interconnects with culture?

yes. with traditional instruments, with the lyrics, with the style they are all connected. you can catch common stories and lyrics with different style of music. sometimes they tell the same story with diffenret styles. a simple example we used to compare alice in chains lyrics with some arabesk songs in turkey. they all tell the same broken hearth story but with the diffenrent melodies and style. but at the and of the day they have the same feeling for their ''very'' own listener. one leaves in seattle the other lives in diyarbakır.

How does the environment you live in affect your music?

i have arabesk, hicaz in my roots. its because of my home town turkey. beging from the chilhood i raised with hearing all traditional music, pop, turkish rock. so these are always in my back library and affects all the music i create.

Do you get inspired by any other form of arts?

maybe a little bit cinema i guess. some scenes inspires me to make some sounds or melodies to complete the feeling of it.
on the other hand i am not a poetry guy i am sorry... visual arts inspires me more.

What makes a set a good set?

if it has a story in my oppinion its a good set. an entrance, a body and the end.and of course good connections with the parts. can be different styles, sounds but must be connected well.maybe with a key, maybe with a drumline, maybe a melody or a lyric. the listener will get the idea if you connect them well.

You seem to have a wide range of sources. Is there any particular era or bands that influence you more?

1970's all turkish bands are all good for me. they were the guys connected arabesk to pop, rock to funk. they were all baddass players. they run the scene and made all turkish iconic styles with their oriental mix energy. they were rock'nroll guys but playing disco or funk for a singer. we can feel the grooves when we lsiten that tunes. they were the guys. i respect them all.

What’s the process you follow when bringing tunes together? Is it instinctive only or do you plan ahead?

it depends with the music. if its a 4/4 dancefloor set yes i always plan the groove drum codes. if its a podcast i plan the wibe then  i choose the tunes. in both ways i always plan i guess.

What would you like to say about your podcast?

i try to introduce different styles of turkish music, styles and genres. in my oppinion its ajazzy, funky, arabesk, soulful, disco and rockabily turkish mix. i hope Kanto Records listeners like my selections.
