Unity has as its foundational Truth that there is only One, "One Presence and One Power". This teaching is rooted and grounded in the Principle of non-duality. There are many teachers and traditions that express this principle in ways that can serve to strengthen and expand our understanding of Unity and the practice of its principles. Non-duality is not a philosophy or a religion, it is the experience of no separation between me and the Universe; me and God.

Studies in Non-Duality: Week 15 (Rev. Bill Williams, 4/12/23)

Over 30 years ago, I read an article in a spiritual magazine where a woman said that when she was a teenager and leaving for the day, that her mother would call out, “Remember who you are!” This was in lieu of “Drive carefully,” “Look both ways,” “Be respectful of your teachers!”  In her family, this loving reminder was to remember that she was a child of God, protected, maintained, and loved by God – and that she should act like it.  This was very timely as my teenager Peter was really chafing against my concerns that he might misbehave when he was out of my sight.  So we agreed that from now on I would just say, “Remember who you are” when he left the house and that was code for “I love you, I trust your good judgment,” “I know you will behave like the child of God you are.”

Over the last many years, I continue asking myself to “Remember who you are.”  Am I identifying myself by some earthly role I play - like mother, daughter, singer, lawyer, friend, or am I first remembering Who I AM?  And how does that affect how I live in the world?

Let’s explore together, “Just who do you think you are, anyway?”  And how can we better have our actions flow from that remembrance?
