Hailing from Vlissingen, Netherlands, Felov (Maarten Nieuwelink) is a drum & bass producer climbing through the ranks at a steadfast pace.

Since 2019, he's carved a distinct sonic niche, crafting music that's deep, dark, and laden with bittersweet melodies. And in 2021, Felov's talent materialized into his debut EP on the esteemed Bristol label, Transparent Audio.

Since then, his productions have graced labels like Overview, Flexout, LFLF, and Midas Touch Recordings. He's garnered international recognition, with two UKF premieres and captivating performances across Austria, England, Germany, and Belgium.

But music creation transcends mere accolades for Felov. It's a creative outlet and a powerful tool for expressing emotions. Felov's dedication to his craft and versatile take on the subtler, visceral depths of drum & bass ultimately does rank him amongst the ones to watch in 2024 and beyond.

Following the success of the first instalment of the Heavy Sonics Next Gen series back in December, we return with another ridiculous 4-track EP with a variety of vibes, all killer and no filler!

The "Next Gen" series is aimed at uncovering and promoting up and coming talent in the underground scene from across the globe. Vol. 2 features 6 completely new artists to Heavy Sonics and following the high bar that Vol.1 set, this tracklist does not disappoint. 

The EP kicks off with "Work" from Serbian newcomer Sneaky. With tight production and a rolling bassline, this one will get you moving and eject you into a different galaxy. In our opinion, this track would not be out of place on a compilation such as the Invisible series from the Vision Recordings camp. We're excited to see and hear more of the talented Sneaky soon.

The second track is from Heavy Sonics favourite DJ/producer, Counter Culture. The track, "Percolate", is a deep number from CC who is experimenting with the darker side of minimal drum and bass. This one fits perfectly on the B side of the release and would go off in any club on a big system. Counter Culture shows his versatility on this one, moving away from his usual silky liquid drum and bass vibes.

The next track is a collaboration between US-based Skorpion and UK-based Sceptre. "Jungle Curry" is a high-energy and frenetic track with a big bassline and punchy drums. This one will take you rolling into the weekend and is a serious weapon for any DJ to draw for. Skorpion and Sceptre are a spicy collaboration and also wicked individual artists in their own right, so go and check them out!

Last but not least on the compilation is all-round sound fanatic, Trench, featuring the mesmerising vocals of the talented Katja. Being a sound recordist and engineer, Trench has been crafting his sound over the years and we love what he is currently putting out. The track "Wanted" is a stripped-back number with funky drums and instrumental elements that add soul alongside the amazing vocals. The amount of groove on this one is 11/10 and we are really happy to close out the EP with this track.

With a bit of everything, Next Gen Vol. 2 hits all the vibes that we love, from deep and dark, to heavy and frenetic, to light and jazzy. Whether you are listening at home or loading up your USB for the club, there's something on here for you.

The Heavy Sonics "Next Gen" series is dedicated to nurturing and promoting emerging artists and this release is a must-listen for anyone looking to stay ahead of the curve in the underground drum and bass scene. Keep an eye on these rising stars; they are only just getting started!

Nestled in the shadows of South West London, the mysterious Elsewhere has teamed up with Rebel Music founder OB1 to bring you 'Checkpoint,' a five-track journey through soulful and futuristic drum & bass. Over the past year, these longtime friends have dedicated countless late-night studio sessions to creating an EP that's as much about the experience as it is about the destination.

Universal Project established in 2000 as a quartet, with their distinctive fusion of Bboy breaks, techno elements, dubwise bass and futuristic twists quickly gaining popularity on dancefloors worldwide. 

With early classics such as 'The Craft' and 'Haunted Dreams' gaining heavy support, renowned Drum & Bass labels soon took notice, with releases following on the likes of Renegade Hardware, True Playaz, Cylon and Virus, who released their their legendary techno-infused track 'Vessel'. 

Their in house label Universal Project Recordings was created to promote their unique sound and collaborate with producers globally, with standout tracks such as 'Glock', 'Warboyz', 'Bleach' and 'Outrun' became fan favorites.

Now consisting of two founding members, with a musical background dating back to 1993, the pair have DJ'ed everything from Hardcore to Jungle, gaining a strong following on London's Pirate Radio stations. Touching down on stages and clubs across Europe, the US and beyond, the dynamic duo have solidified their reputation with performances alongside heavyweights such as Andy C, Friction, Grooverider, Chase & Status, Loxy, Bad Company and many more. 

Moving to the present day, Universal Project continue to bring their inimitable sound to the masses, with more recent releases on labels such as Sofa Sound Bristol, Innerground and Dispatch. In 2024, the release of the full Univesal Project Back Catalogue began, in a three part series featuring many remastered remastered.

In July, they launch their debut solo album 'Universal Language', fusing old skool flavours with a refreshed new focus. Comprised of 13x brand new productions, exploring the dark and rugged depths of the evolving Universal Project sound, the album features collaborations with Xtrah, Stealth, Taelimb and Blacklist, alongside 2x additional remixes of classic UP tracks by current day powerhouses Jubei & Zero T.
