A bootleg remix of Marvin Gaye’s classic “What’s Going On“ by Andy Caldwell.

Following the results of the 2016 US Presidential Election, who would have guessed, on the 45th anniversary of Marvin Gaye’s seminal 1971 album What’s Going On, that the title song would be more poignant than ever.

Simply nudging the tempo, refashioning the original bass line, adding some melodic pads and piano lines, Caldwell has created a simple update of this classic song, all in the key of C# Minor.

It has been nearly five years since we have had the privilege of releasing new music by veteran Australian musician Approaching Black. We are overjoyed to present his new 3-track EP, "Salt & Sea," featuring three sensual, seaside progressive house gems. 

The title cut establishes a beach-at-dusk ambience from its earliest moments. A soothing progressive groove is punctuated by a variety of lush melodies, including a gentle, arpeggiated lead and a series of vocal flourishes. In the main break, the tranquil atmosphere centers on relaxing pads and a gorgeous piano theme. When the rhythm returns, the listener is swept away by the mellifluous soundscape.

The subsequent track, "Blue Bird," maintains the after-hours, beach-flavored atmosphere. A gorgeous chord sequence and vocal motif carries the midrange, while a smooth, deep-progressive groove sits comfortably below. Approaching Black's evocative pads and piano add even greater depth to the already emotive soundscape. 

Rounding out the release, "Face The Sun" is more of an uptempo affair, featuring an uplifting groove and jazzy lead theme. Once again, the listener is met with soulful vocal hooks, including the well-suited phrase, "You make me feel like the summer." As the song progresses, Approaching Black showcases his exceptional compositional ability via a stunning array of atmospheric and melodic accents.

Subconscious Tales - Aura EP [Suffused Music, SMD158]

Much like the name suggests, Subconscious Tales brings to us Aura, a beautiful four track EP, set to travel deep within us. With an ever-steadily growing repertoire, Subconscious Tales teams up with Loco-Volver, Soulfinder and Stage Van H on remix duties, creating an intensely melodic release that all true Prog lovers will embrace excitedly.

The original mix comes in with a strong start, a powerful kick with light pads that well until the track is ready to really take off. Lighthearted percussion and a deep, rolling bass make up the meat of this masterful piece. By the time the breakdown comes in, listeners have already been transported to a magical place of melodies and with a type of euphoria, the bass is welcomed back in after the perfectly timed drop. The original mix is perfect to warm up or cool down a floor and really get people tuned into their emotions.

Loco-Volver introduces the funky flavor to the EP with his upbeat and bassy remix. The bass is the stand out quality in this one. With a disco-esque roll and rumble, the bass plays peek-a-boo with the understated high hats that act as a compliment to the whole track, encouraging it along. The breakdown, a moment of mysticism, as listeners are left hanging, happily suspended until takeoff. Loco-Volver folds it all together harmoniously and has created a real gem perfect to incite introspective moments on the dance floor.

Stage Van H deepens things with his remix, noticeably, on the first note. The kick in this remix takes control of listeners with an authoritative and confident cadence and by the time the synths are introduced, anyone on the dance floor will be under this track’s complete control. The euphonic synth lead really plays a part in this remix by acting in comparison to the intensity of the kick. As if in a yin-yang partnership, all elements of Stage Van H’s remix stay tuned, locked and in absolute polyphony.

Soulfinder brings us the techiest of all versions. His percussion is center stage and he takes listeners on a different journey than the other 3 tracks on the EP. The beat is upfront, the pads and synths step back into the mix as an ambient, subconscious addition that listeners can process and feel good about but still move under the direction of the percussion. Very progressive in composition, Soulfinder’s remix continuously grows as it plays, until all sounds are upfront and ready for their moment to shine.

Sam Davies' "Cosmos," a favorite from our Only Silk 04 compilation, now receives the remix treatment from two distinguished veterans: Sundriver and Alexander Volosnikov. Both mixes blissfully showcase elements of both melodic progressive house and trance. 

Sundriver, a veteran talent whose music has always been equal parts melody and atmosphere, offers the first take on "Cosmos," featuring gorgeous variations on Sam Davies' original themes. In the opening minutes, an uptempo, yet relaxing rhythm unites with a sensitive and hopeful lead theme. Additional midrange layers appear, as the song patiently approaches the main breakdown. At that juncture, chilled and truly breathtaking pads permeate the soundscape and carry the listener into the equally cathartic drop. As a whole, the composition proves to be a Balearic-tinged, therapeutic, and timeless sonic odyssey, piloted by a true progressive legend.

Alexander Volosnikov has already contributed several standout remixes to our imprint in recent years, typically featuring soaring, anthemic themes. His take on "Cosmos" centers on a slightly more relaxed groove than we've come to expect from the Russian veteran, but the lead melodic motifs are no less memorable and poignant. Euphoric melodies punctuate a delicious progressive groove in the early going, with vocal effects and various "tropical" flourishes emerging soon thereafter. In the main break, an unexpected piano solo is simply rapturous, especially when it coalesces with the lead synth themes. The drop to follow packs a powerful and euphonious punch.

Keinemusik (Rampa, Adam Port, &ME) - Muyè

HOSH's fryhide label is back with a first EP that is from an artist other than the boss himself. That artist is Tim Engelhardt, a fast rising German wunderkind who serves up four fantastic tracks that prove why he is going to go on to big things. It is a great signing by H.O.S.H. and one that makes another standout EP on his young but impressive label. 

Engelhardt is currently riding high off the success of his recent album, Moments of Truth, at just 19 years of age. It follows five years of essential tracks on other outlets and all of these have proved he has an emotive deep house and tech sound. Far from just functionality, club tunes, his music is fully formed with real vision and musicality. Says the artist of the release, 'this is a chronicle of what I've been experiencing over the past two years; the transformation from someone who is interested in music and technology to a full solo artist and performer where my reality has become playing music and producing tracks.'

Opening the EP is masterpiece that is Reality, a slow burning tune with wavy beats and carefully constructed melodies that are sombre and tender. It's full of unexpected twists and turns, clever engineering and an arrangement that shows real artistry. As the beats shuffle on you get sucked into the deep emotions and lost amongst the gentle percussion. Then comes Heart Resonance, another moody track with lush chords and pads laid over soft but engaging drums. It's a majestically magical affair that really cooks up some exquisite melodies. 

We Didn't Talk For A While gets a little darker, with more driving drums and rumbling bass that is filled with tension and suspense, even a little menace. Again the chords are well crafted and help stand the track out, then Henriette gets more loose and freaky for the late night hours, with skewed synths and miniature explosions of cosmic colour keeping you locked. 

This is a beautifully crafted EP that marks another great release on this essential and well formed label.

Haifa and Israel bound Sagy Amir returns to our PHW Elements imprint through his One Million Toys moniker with another storming production, this one named as “Circular Motion”. For those of that been around for a while, knows this guys is a passionate producer and always have forward thinking techniques when making new productions. This is surely another winner coming from his studio.

With “Circular Motion”, he delivers in full flare through his trademark energetic basslines, razorsharp percussion and driving hooks that you always will find in his productions. That together with truly pounding effects, well we think you are to get out point, the man himself delivers a real ride from start to finish. 

To spice things up, we also see the return of Ricardo Piedra on the label, a producer we always held high on the label and that in many aspects deliver just the perfect sound to us. This one, packed with his driving grooves and progressive and dramatic textures is definitely a great match to the original ideas from Sagy. We are both happy and honoured to see Mr. Piedra back on the label and you can expect even more in a not too long future but for now, do not miss out with this beauty from him. 

Last but not least we see a new producer joining our ever growing family on PHW Elements. We have the great pleasure to see Swiss producer Audiomolekul join us on the label for the first time, and we do hope he is to find some new listeners to his clever musical art. With a boosted idea of the original from One Million Toys, packed up with some really nice power and drive, he surely showcase what his music is all about. We are absolutely delighted to bring his sound on to the label and hopefully as said, let new listeners find his passion and skills.

As we get closer to the last few weeks of 2018 It's time to start closing the year with a bang and what a great way to do that with the second part of remixes of our biggest release so far - Nekyia by the mighty Basil O'Glue! Jeremy Rowlett is always one of our top picks when we need someone to make a remix of a super strong track and he converted the original version into a storming dancefloor killer, the deep and driving techno influenced bassline works perfectly with the layered peaktime trance lead! Jeremy's trademark sound all over this one, just the way we love it! You might have heard the second remix of this package on John '00' Fleming's disc of FSOE 550 compilation and that explains its strength as Adam Thomas aka London based DJ and producer Façade completely wrecked all the possible and perspective walls of his comfort zone with his dynamic progressive trance remix, there's nothing more to add really, just turn it up and enjoy!

We welcome back the Afterhours & Quiet Morning EP from Romanian producer Moonwatch3r that was released back in early September of 2018. With these two truly warm, deep and moody production the calls for taking them on for remix duty went quick and we present you three different reworks through this release as “Afterhours” get two new interpretations as well as one new on “Quiet Morning”. 

First out is a welcome return from Dutch man of melodies as Stefan Hofland returns to the label through his ever growing Difstate alias. With a truly great blend of melodic vibes, laid back elements and still get that pumping and energetic feel, he most definitely is putting out a highlight of his career so far with this astonishing interpretation on “Afterhours”. We absolutely love what Stefan has created here! 

We also see a welcome back from German based producer Mauerhuhn who once again delivers his full plethora of sounds. Taking his interpret in a different direction putting more grooves and depth into his rework, he surely deliver a massive rework with a full on underground monster. He’s keeping the vibe and the funky feel that has become his trademark sound, and we are more than delighted to bring him back for you all. 

Third out, and taking on the remix duties for “Quiet Morning” is nor other than Brazil bound producer Luciano Scheffer who after a long spell away from us returns with another skilled piece of magic on PHW Elements. With a string of releases on other major labels, we of course welcome him back with open arms as he wanted to take this track on from Moonwatch3r. This is a full on story, taking the track in a more driving, pulsating and energetic way as he flies of right from the start with epic dark layers. With a bassline keeping us on our toes all the way, he smacks one of for the dance floors that we believe will be heard across the globe on any decent floor. Welcome back Luciano, the door is always opened for you!
