The number of people who go hungry has risen for the first time in a decade, to more than 815 million, the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) said on Monday, which is World Food Day.

The announcement coincides with an appeal by Pope Francis to governments to tackle migration caused by food insecurity linked to climate change and conflict.

That call was echoed in Geneva by FAO’s Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, who explained to Daniel Johnson how the agency and its partners are working together to address the root causes of rural migration.
