Halflings, the electronic music group of Jeremy Nissan and Ryan Woodhall, was started on Long Island NY in 2005 as a direct response to their suburban upbringing. The duo’s background in DIY punk and their obsession with raw sound led to a distinctly compositional and live approach to harsh noise and power electronics. As teenagers, Halflings caught the ear of Ron Lessard, who released their first full Length LP Self Esteem on RRRecords. 

Over the years the band has pushed the structural element of their work to the forefront, fusing extreme sound with pop, prog, and electronic dance music. Halflings develop each album thematically, often writing lyrics from a first-person perspective as a means to gain understanding of their subjects as well as their own psyche. 

Little Orchard Boy was conceived as a concept album born from their shared formative experiences of sexuality & masculinity. It should be no surprise that the record digs into the band’s early encounters with New York night life. A distinct NYC dirge permeates the raw funk grooves spanning the album. The 3 tracks featured on Little Orchard Boy were initially composed for live performance before being put to tape in 2019. The EP marks an evolution in Halflings’ sound; While the band’s style of noise has always exuded musicality, Little Orchard Boy introduces a more streamlined usage of melody and song structure. The album’s complex drum programming and subtle studio techniques showcase Nissan’s background as a drummer and Woodhall’s background as a producer respectively, but the true power of the sound lies in the duo’s shared musical vocabulary that they’ve developed over the past two decades.

Primitive Languages/Psychic Liberation concludes it’s year span of amorphous output with Little Orchard Boy. Marking the final chapter in the output of the label formally known as Primitive Languages, which created the lane for the new undertaking of Psychic Liberation.

I believe we can aspire for a better future world through music. Today, I have invited @jaclyn-kendall to record a Mixing for a Cause podcast.

Jaclyn Kendall is is a producer and DJ working within the realms of experimental, techno, industrial, and noise music. Her music aims to blur the defining constituents of particular genres and has heavy overarching art historical and religious/spiritual themes.

She has released music on labels Natural Sciences, Summer Isle, Low Income $quad, Cønjuctø Vaćiø, and Perfect Location Records. She also curated volume I and II of the Palestinian charity compilation, Never a Land Without People, which were released in 2018 and 2020, and plans to announce her own label later this year.

This mix features multiple tracks off vol. II of Never a Land Without People, all profits of the compilation are being donated to Adalah, a grass-roots organization that works to protect the human & legal rights of Arab minorities in Israel.

Subsistir VA, is the compilation made in co-op with Raw Quarterr and Pildoras Tapes labels from Bogota, Colombia. A project curated separately according to the style of each one, with the aim of creating utilitarian music that invites to the reflection of the effort to subsist all the funds raised will be given to the Embera indigenous people who are trapped in Bogotá without being able to leave, due to the contingency of COVID19.

The artists that make up the compilation are Eduardo de la calle, Aleja Sanchez, Brayan Valenzuela, Astronomical Telegram, Black Propaganda, Alessan Main, SOJ, Rise Black, Dim Deck, Magnum Opus, Maceas, MVQX, Dj Maybe and much more.

It is the first time that two labels have come together to produce a two-part compilation and we are proud to join because we believe that music, despite not being first-hand need as the goverment says, music can help inclusion, liberation or even salvation.

Il primo basato a Bari, reduce da un recente debutto in Boiler Room,  produttore che ha scritto il luo nome su centrini come quello di Unknown to Unknown, Illian Tapes e CremeOrganization, promotore della cultura musicale attraverso il suo EXP Record Store e l'altro, adottato a Berlino dal 2013, parte del duo Sons of Traders insieme a Tans, con cui hanno rilasciato su Acero Cutspoons, Gravitational Waves e freshi di una release sulla omonima label con remix di Jansen Loveland e Chris Mitchell.

PREMIERE | Experiment Zero - Fake Production [The Black Lodge]

Interview de @vazyjulie du @metaphorecollectif avec @ola_terreur, qui aborde ce superbe collectif à l'occasion de la sortie de la compilation ICI DANSE LE PEUBLE OUBLIÉ. 

“Depuis quelques temps l’équipe de Metaphore Collectif réfléchit à une façon de garder une trace de son histoire, de l’ancrer dans le temps. La crise sanitaire a précipité les choses lorsque, suite à une fermeture forcée, un grand appel à l’aide a été lancé pour sauver le Meta, leur lieu associatif, bastion de la fête libre à Marseille. Un appel auprès des membres de l’association, mais aussi auprès des artistes passés par la case Meta. La liste était longue, et ils ont quasiment tous répondus présents !
C’est ainsi qu’est né la compilation de 64 titres intitulée «Ici danse le peuple oublié».
