It includes records I’ve been collecting from the last 10 years from Barcelona, Berlin, London, NYC, new and old stuff and also one of my favourites from my label. "I had the honour of closing out one of the most special events I’ve played to date, celebrating the incredible Command D's EP launch for Clone Dialogue. It was my very first warehouse party I’ve been booked for and felt like a full-circle moment as warehouse parties are where I fell in love with our scene when I moved to Marrickville in 2016. I got to play so many of my favourite tracks I’ve been saving up for years out of Translate's ridiculous rig, literal dream come true! 

I’ve re-recorded my set from the night as I was silly enough not to bring a recorder but some things are best in the moment & hopefully this captures a little of the atmosphere. 

Biiiiig thanks to the whole crew, Charley, Fruit Bowl, & Body Promise for putting so much faith in me 🥺🥲 & @ben-fester & @iv-dripp who I’m so honoured to play alongside! "

Roy produces thematic, UK influenced electronic music; tying together ideas of Bristolian Futurism with genre-spanning sound design. After a successful release of his debut EP ‘Hydrotech’ on Room II Records, which found wide and promising support, Roy recently enjoyed his first European summer of events. 
Heading up Local Knowledge Records, Roy emphasises the importance of supporting emerging talent. The 10” vinyl series kicked off in 2020 with a bang, featuring Eora’s Hed Ardennes, and quickly sold out at retailers.

Origins Tapes 070 - Roy Mills

The fifth instalment of the Voyages mix series puts @hanndmusic firmly in the pilot seat, setting off straight to Plantera HQ.

With Dan first catching our eye at parties with the Down to Earth collective in Bristol (namely an Underwater set in a tiny basement💦) we decided we had to give the Comma Traxx head the reigns for a Voyage.

Strap in for deep, driving hypnosis from eery to etheral, with no stone inbetween left unturned.

"A lone traveller emerges from their crash-landed ship upon Plantera, uncertain of what land is before them and what mysteries await. Through the dense, purple mist a marshy woodland appeared. A luminous curiosity pulses from the forest that surrounds this lone wonderer, inviting them to explore with aimless enthusiasm.

Taking them through thick fog bewilderment with shimmers of panic2, enducing sporadic segments of sprinting for safety. Morphing through lucid curiosity into dark and dense dashes of adrenaline; always questioning 'where am I?' somehow their thoughts echoed off the surrounding trees, thick of reverberating thought bubbles. 

Despite a desire to feel scared, the wonderer somehow felt comforted by the surrounding vast atmosphere of Plantera. Ascending to the utopic tree city that inhabits the fog land, the local colony offers nourishment and peace to rest with ease, only a taster of the endless beauty that Plantera can offer"

My family is of Chinese origin and immigrated when my parents were both really young. My siblings and I were all born in The Netherlands. Due to growing up in predominantly white environments, the feeling of connection to my ethnicity was not always that obvious and at times not even desirable to me. Now that I’m getting older, I started to actively seek ways to reconnect with the culture of my ancestors in many different ways: through language, music, food, and people for example. Where I would once be afraid and ashamed to be associated with aspects from my culture, I now experience a sense of deep guttural connection, pride, and protectiveness. With the percussive tracks I selected for this mix, I hope to convey that sense of pride.

There is a tight-knit electronic music community that is rooted in support instead of competition, between as well as within genres. I also love the cozy feel of a small town combined with the liveliness of a larger city - multiple parties to choose from every weekend!
