Day of my death

Our podcast series continues, this month’s story is told by Zemög. 

Co-founder of @matteriacollective, Jose is a talented producer from Pereira, a small capital in the middle of the mountains of the Colombian “Eje Cafetero”. Very influenced by the roots of his country, he had developed a precisely defined technique combining organic, tribal and deep sounds.

‘ Conceiving sound implies knowing it, recording it, manipulating it and seeking a purpose with it. In my life all the projects are directly linked to sound art. I have had the opportunity to record direct sound throughout most of my country and I have used a lot of that recorded material to generate textures and grooves in my compositions. Both the music I produce, as well as the mixes I do live, tend to find a generative, meditative and minimalist purpose in changing tempos, always looking for the sweet spot of bodily disinhibition and mental ecstasy. ‘

Ritualistic chimes reverberate over the dense textures of Halsterenstraat to initiate its granular, sonic ambivalence. Coated by lush elemental shrouds, the track’s hybridization attempts to balance the knots of electronic music spectrum interconnections with its quivering percussion and glimmering, playful aberrations. Generated by an inquiring composition, those impactful layers flood our minds with their tenacity as they slither endlessly on the stalactite shores of our deepest mental chambers.

About the sample bank:

During the last edition of our festival La Vallée Électrique, in June 2022, a participative workshop was held. Our dear Emiliano, from the French collective Le Séquenceur, equipped about twenty festival-goers with portable recorders. Our digital shaman then accompanied these novices in the nature to teach them how to make field recording.

So these are amateur recordings that you can listen to today. Festival-goers who have recorded the sounds of our beautiful valley, with their hearts, to learn something new, but also for the pleasure.

The Turin-based producer Astronomy Domine's label OVUNQVE releases a compilation of 23 ambient, deep, dubby and hypnotic tracks. The Deepwater Compilation Vol. 3 includes tracks for example from Yuka, Shaded Explorer, Fabrizio Lapiana and Simone Gatto, and Monument is happy to preview exclusively Italian duo Primal Code's track Is Azure Down There.

The Deepwater Compilation Vol. 3 releases in digital format on 30th of April 2018.

Softer Than Before

PH17 highlights the experimental and yet hidden underground-scene of Leipzig, the label’s homebase itself. Featuring eight artists from or with a strong connection to the city, "The Learning Group" shows a small glimpse of what's happening in the studios and living rooms of a place that just recently opened up it's dancefloors and venues for more adventures trips within electronic music. 

Besides PH17-member Hobor, all artist premiere on the label, expanding and continuing the label's sound between Ambient, twisted love songs, Free Jazz and experimental soundscapes, leaving behind the rhythmic Techno patterns of the label's early releases while still breathing club music's sonic signature.

Głós, a Polish-born, Berlin-based artist, is hyperaware of these expressive dynamics, weaving them in and out of his own creations with a singular touch. Founder of the Non-Print label, he has been quietly churning out some absolutely compelling ambient music. At the same time, he has earned a reputation around Berlin and abroad as a highly consistent DJ and producer. Considering his well-rounded sensibilities, Głós' contribution to UNRUSH is unsurprisingly an illustration of enthralling tranquility, drifting through valleys of sound and into the vast spaces of the mind. U N R U S H is an experiment in sound, a crystalline vision of eternal pause. Through our record label, podcasts, interviews, and event series we focus on presenting a diverse array of alluring ambient music. With each guest contribution we search for a serene space within the mind that is free from the encumbering stresses of daily life. Our events will act as a platform for distinguished artists and take place in stunning cultural surroundings both in the city and in nature, taking a step away from the pounding hedonism of the club to showcase the other side of electronic music.

3rd Project is a Techno DJ/Producer based in Pomona, California, hailing from a family of DJs. At the tender age of 7, he developed a taste for genres such as electro and brake beats. At the age of 14, his passion for electronic music was ignited after attending his first rave. Subsequently, he spent many of his teenage years raving and observing the changes that took place within the community and scene. In an effort to provide others with the same sense of escapism and feeling that he experienced, 3rd Project took to the stage to explore the boundaries of techno. His hard-driving grooves and hypnotic soundscapes come together to form a cohesive, vivid and unique experience that is sure to capture the essence of the perfect escape.
He has been collaborating with some of the most renowned promoters, such as Synthetik Minds, 6am Group and Dirty Epic. 3rd Project was in direct support of SHDW & Obscure Shape, Cooper Saver, Samantha Togni, Adriana Lopez and Santiago Salazar, as well as Kyle Geiger. In 2020, he established the boutique record label “UNRESPONSIVE WAKEFULNESS”, which is intended to preserve his past and present influences. The label encompasses genres such as high speed techno, lo-fi house and breakbeat, and also serves as a LIMITED clothing line. The first volume is set to release in 2023, featuring tracks from Dog on Acid from Sweden, Max Davison from New England and Cult Play from Omaha Nebraska. His self-titled EP is set to release in 2023, with a remix by Santiago Salazar from Los Angeles.
