The island of Copal Azur is a fantastic kingdom shining with the charm of the unknown, which may be located somewhere on the hidden archipelago lost in the dancing waters of the World Ocean...Which, by a mysterious coincidence, combines the best of both worlds: East and West, spiritualism and science, and clearly show us how this epic dialogue can work...Another beautiful detail of this place is that the animals inhabiting it, only by their presence, conjure up words that help the inhabitants in their practice...Thousands of birds fly over the island, humming the word "attention", and some shaped like buddhas or different deities, emphasizing that the icons do not matter, what does matter is consciousness, which manifests itself in all these forms at the same time...

Concentrating on this for many generations, local residents whose skin glistens with crystals of salt created their own ecosystem, and with appreciation to this they remembered that no one should run anywhere or look for something in the outside world, but learned to value life, feel every moment of it, constantly realizing who they are...Or they appear in relation to all their experience...That is, not condemning human nature and its desires, but observing it, thereby revealing an understanding of their depth...Following this premise, they built a society on which light is the circumstances, and people are seeds...

As part of the wonderful Lovemonk label based out of Madrid, he’s partly responsible for the highly irregularly updated Soleado podcast, and in recent years he’s been part of the three-headed monster called Zwaluw, broadcast on Radio Scorpio (Belgium) and Radio Cavolo (Italy). Baptiste Pinsard AKA Tushen Raï is one of the minds behind Lyon-based label Hard Fist Records. Alongside friend and frequent collaborator Cornelius Doctor he shares his love of far reaching sounds, influenced by his travels around the world and his passion for digging for oddities. Since launching in 2017 Hard Fist have welcomed the likes of Pletnev, Mr TC and our own Ransom Note family member Bawrut, as well as being a platform for both his own and Cornelius Doctor's global tinged productions.

We invited him to give us a taste of what he's all about; strap in for an hour of chugging percussive rhythms and Middle-Eastern influenced electronics...

Followers of ambient music will no doubt know Ario as the man behind @astralindustries, the revered label that fuses reissued work with new releases from some of the most exciting artists in the genre. Despite the challenges thrown up by 2020, this year alone has seen AI releases from @multicastdynamics, The Chi Factory and Waveform Transmission, among others, and 2021 already promises to be even more prolific for both the label and its boss. 

Yet London-based Ario is just as much a DJ in his own right, with a sound that evades neat categorisation: drawn to the “deeply ritualistic and primal” side of drone, yet partial to the occasional dance floor set, he is reluctant to get too concrete when discussing his own music. His Patterns of Perception 77 is designed to challenge the listener – built on the belief that, contrary to what many may think, an ambient set is not necessarily designed to soothe and subdue.
