What does Big Data mean for Australian businesses right now?

It is claimed that 90% of the data ever created in the world was created in the past two years. Big Data is the term that has come to loosely describe how this ever growing volume of data can be harnessed and turned into something of value.

The use of Big Data in business ranges from business intelligence to measure how things have performed in the past, to predictive analytics to discover patterns that help identify potential future outcomes. One way or another it is still data. All businesses have it and few use it as well as they could.

We are pleased to announce that Ray Dhillon, IBM’s Big Data and Analytics leader for Aust/NZ will be joining Rod Jacka to discuss the practical application of data both big and small to business.

About Rod Jacka

Rod Jacka is one of the pioneers of web analytics in Australia. His authority is built on 16 years experience in the business, many speaking engagements, published articles and recognition by other international thought leaders. He is also a graduate of the MBT Program.

Analysis requires both creativity and the discipline of the scientific method to create real value for companies. Rod Jacka, with a strong background in both the arts and online measurement, spans both worlds.

About Ray Dhillon

Prior to rejoining the Aust/NZ practice in mid-2013, Ray led the Business Intelligence and Performance Management competency within IBM's Business Analytics and Optimisation in the growth markets.

During that time, Ray also worked on a number of major client engagements. He was the Programme Director of a key analytics engagement in Malaysia and a Senior Project Manager on a strategic integrated account engagement in China. Before that, he spent two years in Tokyo as IBM Japan's Cognos Leader.

Since joining IBM in 2006, Ray has held numerous delivery and business development roles and has worked extensively on enablement of cross-brand teams across the Growth Markets. He has also gained experience with large consulting firms, numerous software vendors as well as large corporate clients.
