Launching our Field Maneuvers takeover is London-based DJ Tia Cousins with a mix that she says, “containing acid, bleeps, bloops, some cheesy vocals, ALL THE THINGS I LOVE!! live, laugh, field maneuvers always!” 

Marking 8 years of no frills raving, Field Maneuvers makes its return from the 2nd to 4th September at a brand new secret UK location. Located 2 hours from London, the festival invites a tight-knit crew of party people and a knockout lineup of headliners and emerging artists including Eris Drew & Octo Octa, FAUZIA, Overmono, Josey Rebelle, iona, Daytimers, ADAB, Doc Sleep and more. The festival champions local heroes and friends, of which Tia is included, alongside the likes of Ambient BabeStation Meltdown, Prince of Deptford, DJ Hectick and so many more.

Untitled 909 Podcast 127: Tia Cousins [Field Maneuvers Takeover]

After doing some serious soul-searching this week due to the post-Houghton blues, Noah Tucker has come to the rescue to provide us all with 48 minutes of non-stop naughtiness. Starting with some downtempo chugginess, the mix builds in intensity to UK bass and baile club weapons. 

Hailing from Hackney, the DJ/Producer has been busy helping to run the show over at Kindred Radio whilst also managing the label Ulterior Motives. Noah’s also found time to play at some notable summer festivals this year, including Latitude and Seaside Beano, with Leeds coming up at the end of the month. Borne Fruits with Amaliah - 31 October 2022

Another artist on the 3024 mentoring programme, Berlin-based DJ and producer Guava seeks inspiration from his friends and community for a stunning mix which opens blissfully with a selection of unreleased tracks from Pace Yourself and Guava himself. The session then builds into the a kaleidoscope of breaks-filled colour featuring tracks from Talik, ADG, Stenny, and 2 Bad Mice to name a few. 

Speaking about the mix, Guava says, “doing mixes is really interesting from my side as I come at it from a production perspective. Whenever I do mixes I tend to just use music that is written by my friends and my wider scene. As a result, I think musically, it’s such a advantage as you end up with a cohesive structure that exists and all cuts from the same cloth - yet still have enough variation in it for it to be interesting. It’s not me making an accolade about my own music, it’s just the way I select tracks, having stuff from my friends, my peers and my own music as well. My music is inspired by my peers. Sometimes when I’m stuck with when making my own music, a friend said to me why don’t you make a mix and you’ll have a better understanding of the music that moves you - no matter what genre or tempo. So this is kind of an insight into the process behind some of my productions.” 

In a few short years under the Guava alias, real name Bradley Hutchings, has released much-loved EPs on the likes of Holding Hands, Touch From A Distance, Breaka Recordings, Control Freak and Tread Records. This year, he made his debut on 3024, contributing to the second compilation series, ‘Everything Merged’, which features tracks all from producers on the mentoring programme. Aside from his work under Guava, Bradley is a session guitarist and composer, previously working as a touring musician with bands such as Malena Zavala and LION. This has led to performances at BBC Maida Vale, Hammersmith Apollo, The Roundhouse and Abbey Road Studio 2.

For the 283rd edition of our mix series we present the impervious Katya. Kindred resident and regular party starter, Katya has a love for all things electro. 

I wanted this mix to reflect the sort of sounds you may expect to see me play in a club setting at the moment —  spooky techno & electro really do it for me, especially if there’s a vocoder involved, so my sets are always infused with a bit of doom & gloom. I play happy stuff too but the moodiness gets to my soul more than any other style of music. Although the mix is punchy, I’ve kept it under 130 and stripped it back so it’s listenable during work hours. I feel like in the past, my guest mixes were probably too intense to listen to unless you were getting ready to go out, that’s something I’ll be doing a lot less of this year. Equally, I’m hoping this mix is the beginning of me coming out of my imposter syndrome fuelled creative block. Enjoy !
