Well well well... Another year has passed by! 

So happy to end it up with a mix from this upcoming big artist from nyc. Mexican born, @AmeliaHolt is a resident at @publicrecordsnyc and a host at @movement-radio-athens. 

This mix was recorded in the legendary Good Room last month, and definitely takes you on a trip to other dimensions. House, breaks, IDM and beautiful baselines that surf trancy synths. Could imagine how sweaty that dancefloor should have been, so much rythm man...

TOMBOLOMIXX 066 - Amelia Holt

Swiss-Colombian producer Luca Durán has been releasing music for over 10 years, previously under the alias Look Like on labels such as Clone's Royal Oak and Mistress Recordings. In 2019, he ditched the moniker to start releasing music under his own name with the first release 'Circunvalar' - a personal tribute to the analogue innovation and body music of the 1980s. Since then, he has continued the output on his own label Akoya Circles as well as an EP on Colombian label TraTraTrax where he explores more diasporic soundscapes, leaning into slow, chugging dembow rhythms.

The release was followed up last year with Luca's debut album 'Libertas' which he started working on in 2019 during a family visit to Colombia where there was an eruption of protests against police brutality. Then we were in lockdown and Luca, back in his studio in Amsterdam, started exploring themes of liberty and autonomy, leading to an album of magical realism, somewhere between the echoes of club culture and the influence of Latin American writers such as Octavio Paz and Gabriel García Márquez. There's a sense of vulnerability in his work, transparent as you listen through 'Libertas' where the energy builds over the course of the record and explodes in the title track.

Where on the album Luca focuses on more exaggerated, moody vibes, for his contribution to our mix series he describes the selection as 'a smoothie of riddims, tempos and sound colours'. The hour-long session shows a new bright light to Luca's orbit, stepping away from the intensity of his productions as he pieces together tracks from the likes of Huerco S., Kouslin, Ido Plumes, Mata Disk, Rhyw and more.

Russell Ellington Langston Butler (they/them) is a Black artist from Bermuda, living and working in New York City. Russell has painstakingly cultivated a unique artistic expression that integrates and investigates themes around process, technological innovation, the archive, and decolonization. Their works have taken the form of vinyl records, digital audio releases, live A/V performances, and special archiving projects. 

In 2022, Russell has kept a busy schedule. Remixing artists like Scott Avery and Joakim, touring internationally, and holding it down on many dancefloors in NYC. Russell recently released a new process oriented work called Three Things Minus One and has been playing live gigs again.

"I’ve had a lot on my mind this summer as I’ve adjusted to an intense tour schedule. This is my job now and I am super grateful for the opportunity to travel and share music. This heightened intensity has made it hard to take a moment to breathe, so I’m working on that. This mix isn’t entirely focused on that though. I made this mix while thinking about all of my friends medically transitioning at the moment. There is no explicitly trans messaging in this mix, or even trans artists (to my knowledge), but I made it while holding space for my friends starting to bind, starting HRT, fundraising for Top surgery, growing and expanding their consciousness whilst reconciling with and embracing their bodily autonomy. So this one is a kind of dedication to them and my love for them and my hope that these sounds give them some space, just for them."

Now based in the Bay Area, @sisgirlpgh has become a staple of the US queer underground via the close-knit and musically multifaceted Pittsburgh dance music community and through unforgettable sets at festivals like Gays Hate Techno and Honcho Campout. A co-founder of Pittsburgh's MESH, alongside ChadKid and newly minted resident Calin, and a resident of Kosmetik in San Francisco, their sets traverse many tempos within a dreamy, bassy, and effervescent palette. Their mix is a perfect backdrop as we lament the absence of those queer summer moments in the woods due to the COVID-19 pandemic, bouncing between melancholic reflection and joyful reminiscence.

"The tracks I put into this mix have been some I have been sitting on for a while and wanted to put together. When quarantine because of COVID started I wanted to create something with energy but still something on a tempo that wouldn’t necessarily be played on a dance floor.

The mix is recorded all around 100 BPM but still brings energy so it’s great for a mellow time or something different. The tracks are new plus some that I’ve had tucked away for a time like this. It’s one of my favorite things I’ve put together and I hope it brings people a lot of comfort and happiness during this time."
