Translator's Note: A Scorpapult is an action once attributed to Roman recruits, but now largely considered to be an invention of the early Renaissance. The act involves the anchoring of a captives body to a stable part of the machinery, and the attachment of the head to the delivery apparatus, resulting in the dismemberment typically at the neck if loaded and fired correctly. Stories around this time describe that despite the inability for speech, the heads would often pass, or in even more remarkable cases, be in the middle of, an almost infantile delight at the singular sensations caused midflight on the parabellum. The subsequent belief led to quite a few recluses that might as well have practiced Scorpapult when they offed themselves, and the guillotine is an apparent derivative.
